Can I do tights and flat shoes together?

Okay I'm clueless when it comes to things like this. Going out on Saturday for the first time since DS arrived, and feeling a bit nervous! I've got a strapless black dress that comes to just above my knees. Legs not brilliant so need tights, now can I wear flat shoes with them or will that look daft? I can't manage heels! It's a fairly dressy Xmas dinner.

I would have thought that a strapless dress would look better with heels as it is dressy. As it is for a dinner could you manage with small heels as you will be sitiing down most of the time? Something like this.

Yes, of course you can. In fact pretty flats - embellished etc - are very 'in' now.

Yes, definitely, I love pretty flats with tights, and I love that combination of dressy and more casual. Am not a fan of heels at all.

Thankyou all that's really helpful. dexter those are lovely but still too high for me, am so awkward in heels, wish I could wear them as they would look better with strapless dress. Oh well I'll have to practice for next year!

You can.....but, bare shoulders draw the eye across so putting flat shoes with it can make you appear shorter. Not a problem if you're tall but not ideal if you're vertically challenged (like myself) or carrying extra weight.

I only wear pretty flats on a night out - can't walk in heels plus hate being preoccupied with uncomfortable feet. Just got some lovely ones in Clarks called Advent Candle. They're really flattering on so after I bought the initial leopard print pair I got the black ones.

I don't really like strapless with dark tights to be honest, but could live with flats and nude tights.

Agree - I'd get some nice nudes, like M and S Autograph, to go with the flats as you're going strapless.
