I have very thick long wavy hair that tends to be frizzy. I am really keen on the look of these but really dont want to waste £120. I would love to hear what you think.

I have hair that sounds exactly the same. I would absolutely love one but they are soooooo expensive. Also, not sure whether they would do a better job than my curling wand?

Interested to see what people say

My dd is keen on trying one so I've ordered from QVC as that way if its crap ( which I think it will be) we can send it back in a couple of weeks and all I will have wasted will be the postage costs . It was a TSV about a week ago.

That's a really good idea Flora. I am now really confused as there is the pro curl as well (even more expensive). But i don't know if I need this as my hair is really thick and long! Or would the secret curl be sufficient?????????????

I have bought my mum one for christmas (not for me to borrow, oh no) my SIL is a hairdresser and the salon she works for has just bought two as they said the curl lasts longer than doing it with GHD's and its quicker.

Ooh definitely get one!! I have one as I have very silky fine hair that curls fall out of easily. I bought one of these when they first came out and it's brilliant, curls stay in and it's really quick.

How long does your hair need to be for it to be effective? I want one but my hair is just below shoulders, I think it might be too short.

Feenie · 09/12/2013 19:16

Purple37, my hair sounds like yours - which one did you buy, Pro Curl or Secret Curl?

Floralnomad · 09/12/2013 19:27

dharma apparently they recommend it for short to mid length hair ,its long hair that it is least likely to work on .

LynetteScavo · 09/12/2013 19:30

Oh, I really want one! I can't afford one now (but have hinted to DH Wink)!

tangledzebra · 09/12/2013 19:55

I got one and was so excited but found it didnt work on my hair (fine, past shoulder length) and my daughters - similar hair.

When I meant it didn't work was that the curls didn't hold very long- well not any longer than my £20 curling wand and it was a nightmare to do the back of my hair as it's a lot bigger/heavier than my curling wand and it has to face a certain way to work.

I got mine from boots and returned it with no problem-used but still with the box/receipt approx 2 weeks later. the shop assistant was very surprised and said it had been the first return she had done for the curl.

Hopefully it will work for you if not keep the receipt!

I got the secret curl from Boots, used a couple of advantage point vouchers and got it on triple points day. Came in at around £103, expensive but I reasoned it was cheaper than paying the hairdresser £20 a time for a hair up/ curl.

I have got lots of fine, wavy hair which used to be curly but after years of GHD abuse doesn't curl uniformly and looks a bit of a hideous mess to be honest if I don't style it. Wash and go is an absolute no no!

The curl secret takes about 15mins to do all over and I found the curl stayed in all day - the wavy texture of my hair definitely helps here. It even looked ok the next day, more of a looser curl, so I ventured out without doing much to it and a friend complimented me on it!

I used it on the highest heat setting so the curl was tighter so next time I will use a cooler setting for a looser curl. I used it on my friend who has long, poker straight hair and though it looked lovely once done the curl dropped out within half an hour.

I would certainly recommend itSmile

My hair would need product to hold the curl and I can see no way of cleaning off build up. Has anyone tried to clean theirs or noticed product build up?

SorrelForbes · 09/12/2013 21:36

I have the pro-curl and have used it on both bra strap length and chin length hair with excellent results.
