Its not unusual to paint your toenails all winter is it?

Colleagues happened to see mine and were marvelling at it

but if they are always painted does discolouration matter?

Mine are always painted, my feet are so ugly without and I'm often barefoot at home. They don't chip like my stupid fingernails so it's fairly easy maintenance for such a big improvenment!

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 06/12/2013 09:28

I don't know if it matters or not, probably not, but as mine really are not on show at all in winter (I wear socks and/or slippers at home, do no barefoot exercise except swimming) it just seems a good idea to have a break.

cardamomginger · 06/12/2013 09:29

I do mine all year round (I started using a conditioning basecoat recently and it has made a big difference to the condition of my nails). I know I don't 'have' to, even in summer when they are more on show. But I like to. Perks me up and makes me feel a bit more 'done'.

cardamomginger · 06/12/2013 09:32

Related question to those of you who have professional pedicures during the winter: how do you get home afterwards without smearing/damaging it? I only have professional in the summer when I can walk home in flipflops. Do you all go home in flipflops? Don't socks/tights and closed toe shoes muck it up?

Bunbaker · 06/12/2013 09:36

Which basecoat are you using cardamomginger?

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 06/12/2013 09:38

Not unusual, I like mine painted any time of year. I don't do make up at all but hairstyles and nail polishes are the only way I make an effort!

FracturedViewOfLife · 06/12/2013 09:39

I do paint them but I leave it longer between doing it.

Trills · 06/12/2013 09:41

If you always have red on your nails then it doesn't matter if they are discoloured underneath - it's not bad for them as in unhealthy, they just don't look good naked.

roguepixie · 06/12/2013 09:43

I do paint them but not so diligently as I do in summer.

MuffCakes · 06/12/2013 09:55

Mine are always painted the last time they were bare was when I was in hospital having an op, they were revarnished the day I was home. I really don't care about nail discolouration as I never see my natural nails anyway!

Bonsoir · 06/12/2013 09:57

My nails get weak and yellow if I have permapolish. So no, I don't keep them varnished all winter. My feet are perfectly pedicured, however.

NorbertDentressangle · 06/12/2013 09:58

I don't bother over the winter as it's too time consuming for something that nobody sees.

Also the colours I like don't look good with pale, bluey white winter skin !

Bonsoir · 06/12/2013 09:58

cardamomginger - I have my feet pedicured before having my hands manicured at the hairdressers, and then I wait for a while reading magazines or while one of the DC has their hair cut. And then I call DP to come and collect me in the car at the front door of the salon!

BigToesofFrog · 06/12/2013 14:00

I love painting my toenails and I do it through the winter, though they're more likely to get the odd week off when I'm not wearing sandals. It doesn't matter that they're not on show - I just like having them painted and choosing a colour that suits my mood.

I actually enjoy deciding what my christmas toenail look will be each year Blush even if it's only me, DP and the DC that see it. This year it will involve this.

BigToesofFrog · 06/12/2013 14:03

Essie grow stronger base coat is my favourite and even looks really nice on its own if you do a few coats.

HanneHolm · 06/12/2013 14:12

Agree. Don't care if discoloured as I don't see them

Always painted (base/colour/top coat) and feet filed etc
I do pole fitness so spend a fair bit of time in bare feet

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 06/12/2013 14:48

I always paint my toenails, my fingernails are usually just plain maybe a coat of clear lacquer (trying to get them healthy again after years of uv/acrylic gels), but my toenails are filed and painted, I go to bed with moisturiser on my feet and socks. I like to be a bit more out there with my toenal polishes and often glittery or blue.

Artandco · 06/12/2013 15:00

I get hair cut in the same place as nails. Saves time and nails dry whilst hair is blow dried. Rarely coloured though usually just a French manicure

cloudskitchen · 06/12/2013 15:09

mine are current not painted, only removed last night and its really bugging me. they will be painted again by end of day.

JennySense · 06/12/2013 17:20

Mine are usually painted to make me smile :)

Calabria · 06/12/2013 18:15

I'm with SirChenjin and MissMilbanke

mrselgar · 06/12/2013 20:04

Mine are painted all year round. They are currently sporting OPI Malaga Wine, which is one of my favourites. I might go sparkly for Xmas.

valiumredhead · 06/12/2013 22:58

I have never not had painted toe nails since I was about 14Grin
