...and not just an occasional dowsing in you in Debenhams.

I don't like Un Bois Vanille either Bunny - I was expecting a gorgeous smoky vanilla and what I got was vanilla magic tree. If you want a really smoky grown up vanilla then Mona Di Orio's Vanille is the best IMHO.

L'ambre des Merveilles is wonderful though. I intend to buy myself a full bottle when I have the funds. Coffee do you mean that the L'ambre des Merveilles eau de parfum comes in a small siver bottle?

coffeeinbed · 04/12/2013 18:34

No.
The Ambre is a flanker. It does not come as a perfume.
The Perfume is Parfum Des merveilles.
It's boozy, amber, patch and woods but not the vanilla the L' Ambre has.
It's gorgeous, it really is.

The Eau des Mervelles is the salty, slightly orange-y, but not citrusy.
The Eau Claire has some flowers and a slightly milky skin note to it, and the saltines of the original.

They are all slightly different.
Worth a smell.

Hope it makes sense, despite my atrocious spelling and grammar.
Blush

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 04/12/2013 18:41

Perhaps I shouldn't admit this, but I saw the thread title and thought "why would you want eau de old man and delivery van" Blush

MistAllChuckingFrighty · 04/12/2013 18:58

RP, some great bargains there but not the precise one I am after (I think). I need to spray again...

Where does one get free samples ? Is there such a thing for expensive perfume ? They are so addictive, I am sure sales would soar if they tantalised you with tiny little samples.

No the orange here is different - it's not the fresh citrus thing.
It's more of a candied orange, but not sweet.
Which only makes sense if when you smell it.

Blush I do have a life, really...

I just sold a bottle that was two thirds full on ebay for about £20, sold 3 hermes perfumes in one listing. I'd recommend checking ebay out. Reputable sellers only. Also when I wore this a lot I bought a huge bargain bottle that was a tester from an online shop.

Apatite1 · 04/12/2013 20:35

Coffeeinbed, you sound like a fellow perfumista.

50 bottles and counting here....

I do like Un Bois Vanille, I am a gourmand lover though....

coffeeinbed · 04/12/2013 20:39

I'm more of a sniff and run woman, TBH.
I never have enough wrist space when out shopping.

I did go through one whole bottle of Eau des Merveiiles and one of Eau Claire though.
And have the perfume hidden away for petting and admiring purposes.

cerealqueen · 04/12/2013 20:51

ask them for a copy?

Not the same as a lovely bottle I know but you could by a beautiful oil bottle to put it ti?

cardamomginger · 04/12/2013 20:55

Try Ebay. Unfortunately Ebay no longer permit partially full bottles to be sold, so the real bargains are not to be had right now. But you might still find a good deal.

cardamomginger · 04/12/2013 20:57

I adore L'Eau des Merveilles. Like L'Ambre too - feels like I am enveloped in cocoa-scented cashmere.

hollyisalovelyname · 04/12/2013 21:07

I feel your pain OP.
I love Chanel Jersey but my budget is Impulse.

CointreauVersial · 04/12/2013 23:04

Get a decant from somewhere like Surrender to Chance. You can afford a small bottle.

MistAllChuckingFrighty · 04/12/2013 23:16

decant ?

Surrender to Chance ?

What is this language you are speaking ?

wiltingfast · 04/12/2013 23:49

Ooo don't you know mist, they'll take some of the perfume and put it into a small plastic bottle for you and post it to you Grin! I got 8ml of ninfeo mio that way. It's obviously not the cheapest way to buy per ml or anything but it does make these perfumes more accessible.

www.surrendertochance.com

Postage is a bit expensive so you'll probably want to ah, order a few more while you're at it ;)

MistAllChuckingFrighty · 04/12/2013 23:57

Ohhh, right. I am somewhat of a novice at this S+B stuff. Smile Will have a look.

MistAllChuckingFrighty · 05/12/2013 00:02

$17 for a sample + shipping. Anyone know what that is in £ ?

OP posts:
coffeeinbed · 05/12/2013 09:41

Wait for the sales.
there's always Hermes gift boxes on offer.

Gatekeeper · 05/12/2013 09:45

my favourite is Chanel Sycomore...nothing else will do and it's about £150 a pop Sad. Wifey in Fenwicks hides the testers when she sees me coming now...
