Having my hair cut today & I am thinking of having this style. Just get the fridge cut in.

My hair is similar length and I really need a change up.

Is it 'in' or will I look dated?

Not sure if it's "in" but i got a fringe last year and really love it, i find it updated my hair instantly, my wonderful hairdresser says it's very easy to look groomed with a fringe and i must say i agree with him..

Go for it!

IfIDontSnowAndYouDontSnow · 03/12/2013 10:44

MadameBabawic Did you go as far back as Zooey's fringe goes? Is it just a case of straighten the fringe if in a rush, and you look groomed?

OP posts:
BunnyLebowski · 03/12/2013 10:47

Do it!

I had Zooey hair before I went bright red.

A big fat roller in your fringe will get a better result than straighteners. They leave lines and make the hair look flat.

I love doing Zooey waves with a bouffy half updo for nights out. Like this.

MadameBabawic · 03/12/2013 10:50

Yes, i wanted a big fringe and thats what i got! I didnt want an excuse for a fringe Grin and yes, as long as the fringe is straightened then it looks good. I can mess up the rest depending on how long i have in the morning to get ready but i do find that i actually have a hairstyle now, rather than a head of hair IYSWIM?
I also pin it back and the big fringe looks better (iMO) with my hair back, something i didnt really used to do before.
When it grows i also like to swap my parting and have it abit more to the side, depending on how often i get it trimmed (usually every 5-6 weeks but just a tiny bit as i'd rather it was way too long than too short).

I'm abit evangical about my fringe Blush but it boosted my self confidence so much!

BunnyLebowski · 03/12/2013 10:54

Big fringes are ace Grin.

I've always cut my own (don't like hairdressers) and I cut mine in quite far back so it's a heavy thick fringe. May hair is centre parted behind the fringe.

Really easy and surprisingly low maintenance.

It looks great down and especially, as Madame says when hair is tied up.

Have put a pic on my profile of my DIY fringe!

MadameBabawic · 03/12/2013 11:21

Love the fringe Bunny !

ElizabethBathory · 03/12/2013 11:58

Zooey has the best hair in the world - do it!

I have the fringe, but on bob length hair. Bunny, your hair is perfect. How do you trim your fringe? I always go to the hairdresser but it's a PITA. Any tips or do you just do it by eye? And do you cut it blunt or hold the scissors vertically and cut into it? Sorry for minor thread hijack.

ElizabethBathory · 03/12/2013 12:01

Also, I second everything MadameB says about fringes - I often just wash and blow dry my fringe using a barrel brush, and don't even touch the rest of my hair, so it's bedhead waves but looks 'done' cos of the fringe. Totally low maintenance, even on wavy hair.

BunnyLebowski · 03/12/2013 12:02

Ta Liz Grin .

I cut it blunt and then cut up into it to make it a wee bit less blocky.

BunnyLebowski · 03/12/2013 12:03
is a great video for cutting a fringe that is a wee bit longer at the sides a la Zooey.
ElizabethBathory · 03/12/2013 12:10

Thanks Bunny. I shall experiment. You never know how the hairdresser's going to do it anyway - even with strict instructions it sometimes ends up wrong (they like to chop off the long sides and make it all square Shock), so I might as well learn to do it myself.

BunnyLebowski · 03/12/2013 12:13

Exactly. I stopped going about 4 years ago. I was sick of the same one size fits all straightened do with a sweeping fringe.

Proper hairdressing scissors are a must! There are loads of tutorials on Youtube to help as well.

MadameBabawic · 03/12/2013 12:48

So, i take it you'll do it?! I'm not brave enought (yet) to do it myself though.

Let us know what you decide and show us a pic

Absy · 03/12/2013 13:41

I have shiteola hair (very fine), but even that hair looks great with a fringe. And then I can be all smug and what not about not having a wrinkly foreahead, because no one can see it.

At the moment I'm going for something more side swooshy (as a change), and it still looks great.

IfIDontSnowAndYouDontSnow · 03/12/2013 17:04

OK, I have done it! I have a fringe now. It looks really goos & I feel so much better for it.

I nearly backed out, & got a side sweeping fringe, however womaned up & just did it.

So glad I did. It's fab! Massive confidence boost & well needed.

Bunny you have great hair.

Yay!! Can we have a picture????

Sounds fab Smile

MrsLettuce · 03/12/2013 17:06

Excellent, damned good decision. I love how mine distracts from my frown lines

ElizabethBathory · 03/12/2013 18:36

Yay, glad you like it!

squoosh · 03/12/2013 19:01

Bunny I have major hair envy! And your hair is naturally thick whereas Zooey Des........thingy obviously has some discreet extensions.

I've never had a fringe in my whole life. It's a bloody disgrace that I intend to rectify sharpish. Go big or go home I say, nothing worse than a wispy apologetic excuse for a fringe.

I like Alexa Chung's 60's style cut.

Zooey Deschanel's hair.
IfIDontSnowAndYouDontSnow · 03/12/2013 21:00

Thank you very much to every one on here! Wine

I'm having a self esteem crisis (on another post, was advised to come here) at the minute & this was fab!

I promise I will post a picture as soon as I have sorted myself out. ( I am determined to have this done by next week)

Well done for going the whole hogg IfIDont really pleased for you!

I hope you didnt feel like one of those long haired dogs for the first few hours as I did, I just wasn't used having hair on my forehead!

Enjoy your new look Smile
