I'm lightening my hair and it's a bit brassy. What colour would tone it down a bit?

I'm naturally dark but have cut my hair very short and have be going blonde with bleach. I streaked somemore through it last night but it looks a bit orangey in parts

Would the purple toner type stuff work or a dye?

If I used a dye what would be best? Ash blonde or dark blonde?

I'm really trying not to go dark again, I'm trying to blend my grey in.
Thanks Grin

I toned it down last time with left over L'Oreal reusable mousse but I have no idea what colour it was.

Try 'a touch of silver' shampoo first before another colour.
It is a purple shampoo that can take brassiness out of hair.

I was going to get that. Its cheap in B&M. But I read online that it doesn't work on the orangey/ginger bits only brassy yellow?

I'm going to trim it when I can be bothered getting off the sofa so I might chop some if it out.

It won't lighten hair, so if you've got orange bits it suggests you've not lightened enough. Brown hair when it is bleached goes from brown to red to orange to yellow to white. If you are DIYing and have different levels of regrowth from different dying sessions it can be really hard. You might need to see a professional.
