Mascara/eyeliner that won't smudge under my eyes?

OPeaches · 28/11/2013 20:29

I use Lancôme pencil eyeliner underneath my lash line and various different mascara a, usually either Bad Gal, They're Real or Lancôme hypnose. Every day by lunchtime I have grey smudges under my eyes. I've tried using concealer underneath, as well as Benefit Stay Don't Stray. I have normal skin, not dry, not greasy.

What am I doing wrong?

Maybe your eyes are too moist rather than the eyeliner. Personally I only have to wipe away Rimmel about twice a day...more often if I'm scrunching my eyes up from tiredness/stress.

DoItTooJulia · 28/11/2013 20:34

I've been recommended nars eyeliner for this.

Worth a try?

I use Boots No 7 mascara in a gold tube that is marketed as no smudge. It definitely doesn't smudge but does feel a bit crispy. If you cry, it comes off in little lumps, so don't cry. I also use a little pot of eyeliner from pound land called chit chat that you put on with a little brush. It's the best I've ever used and stays put all day without smudging. I am a newly converted make up cheapskate.

All of the rest of my makeup is Bobbi Brown, but I've never found a better smudge-proof mascara than the Body Shop.

lookatmybutt · 28/11/2013 20:50

I find Benefit stuff in general to be horribly overrated and found the mascara smudgy/melty. In fact I tried a lot of expensive ones and they were all as bad. I went back to Max Factor 2000 Calorie. NO SMUDGY/MELTY!

For eyeliner, you could try Avon Supershock gel pencil in black, but I don't know if it would be too black for you. As long as it's not on the waterline and just underneath it should stay put.

MrsDavidBowie · 28/11/2013 20:53

Hourglass gel eyeliner does not shift.

OPeaches · 28/11/2013 20:56

Thanks for all the replies! I particularly like the the cheap suggestions!

Would gel eyeliners look too harsh though? It's a soft line I put under my lash line. Definitely not water line, was that not outlawed in the 90s?! Grin

I never put mascara on the bottom lashes.

littlemissnormal · 28/11/2013 21:11

I use Avon Glimmerstick on my bottom and top lash lines and it lasts amazingly well. Plus it's only £6, but I bulk buy when it's £3.

I use black but a lady at work I recommended it to uses the brown which is softer.

OPeaches · 28/11/2013 21:12

Do you put eyeliner under bottom lashes valium? I think my eyes would look unfinished if I didn't.

No, the gel is the least harsh of any I've used. The tiny brush makes it easy to get a thin, soft line. It's actually quite hard to build up enough depth of colour to go for the really harsh evil-crow look of the early 90s! Anyway, for a pound, you can chuck it you don't like it.

valiumredhead · 29/11/2013 07:59

Yes I do wear liner. Sometimes I think mascara on the bottom lashes looks a bit spidery imo.

Aaliyah1 · 29/11/2013 08:01

Barry M pencil eyeliners. There waterproof. It goes on like a pencil and you can smudge it if you want a smokey look etc but then it stays putt. Amazing stuff and only 2/3£!

southeastastra · 29/11/2013 08:03

use eyeshadow instead (or put over the eyeliner) use a tiny brush to make sure it's close, lancome have a great brush for this.

valiumredhead · 29/11/2013 10:50

Barry M? Oo must check that out, thanks for the tipSmile

OddFodd · 29/11/2013 10:52

Estee Lauder mascara is the only one that doesn't smudge under my eyes. And I use a liquid eyeliner rather than kohl/pencil

valiumredhead · 30/11/2013 16:07

I am currently wearing a Barry M eyeliner, it's FABGrin

onetiredmummy · 30/11/2013 16:16

No7 Extreme Length doesn't smudge and builds brilliantly for volume .

I don't wear eyeliner, I use a flat angled brush that's damp with eyeshadow and line with that, it's softer.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/11/2013 16:24

I love Barry M ( especially the bold metals) but they are the smudgiest ones I know - which I like. I use under the eye and in the inner lid. Alot of pencils can't do this.

I don't wear mascara on the bottom - my lower lashes are long and my dear older sister pointed out I looked like I had my "eyes on up-side down" Hmm.

I use Mally mascara -it stays put (and makes my rather rubbishy eyelashes look good)

valiumredhead · 30/11/2013 16:35

Is that the waterproof ones? It's staying put atm...

Skinheadmermaid · 30/11/2013 16:54

Try barry m liquid eyeliner and bojoius clubbing mascara.
Both stay put on me even through sweating through fitness class, boxing and wrestling with my head on someone elses chest.
I doubt you'll need even half the staying power i do!
Infact they last long after all the other make up has slid off my face, this is from applying them at 7/8am and removing my make up at 11/12am. Not a smudge.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/11/2013 17:55

The BarryM ones have 'waterproof' eyeliner on the details but they are metallic rather than the matte , so maybe they have less stay put power.
But as they are only a couple of pounds, great colours ( I have grey and purple, today I bought silver and dark blue) and are bunny friendly, I'll go with that Grin
