Do you wash your face with a cleanser in the morning?

I always have, just out of habit, but am wondering if there's any point when I've thoroughly cleansed the evening before. Would just a splash of water be enough (or even nothing at all)?

Btw, my skin's generally fine, but in winter I have slight dryness on my cheeks and a small eczema patch that keeps flaring up.

Depends on your skin and on what you're using I think! I do use a cleanser every morning but it's a cream cleanser for dry skin, wiped off with a hot wet cloth. I use a rich night cream so my skin feels quite oily otherwise.

ElizabethBathory · 28/11/2013 12:12

I was just wondering whether my skin would hold onto more of its natural oils and get less dry if I cleanse it less. Some blogger with perfect skin said she only washes her face every other day so it got me thinking!

I use a glycolic cleanser every morning and it's made a huge difference to my skin. I've definitely got more of a glow, my lines are softer and I have far less break outs.

Sounds good Sorrel!

Sorry posted that too soon - do you use it in the evening too Sorrel?

No I don't bother (too lazy!), I just use face wipes and then apply a lightweight moisturiser (currently a La Roche Posay one).

I'm absolutely hooked on the Jan Marini stuff though as it's made such a difference. It's not cheap but a little goes a long way.

EmGee · 28/11/2013 14:18

Oft quoted on S&B, bloggist Caroline Hirons says cleansing in the morning is a must but to use a teeny amount of cleanser.

I, however, am far too lazy and need to force myself to cleanse properly at night never mind the morning.

Well I double cleanse at night, put all my unguents on, and then just use a warm wet flannel to freshen in the morning. I sort of don't want to take the goodness out of my skin in the morning IYSWIM. My skin is pretty darn fabulous, if I do say so myself Grin

goodasitgets · 28/11/2013 16:59

Yes
Night routine - balm cleanser, glycolic cleanser, acid tone, hydrate tone, moisturise
Morning - cleansing milk, hydrate tone, moisturise

My skin now looks bloody amazing Grin

Thants · 28/11/2013 21:58

Yeah I always do. If not I'd be applying make up to a very oily face.

GobblersKnob · 29/11/2013 06:39

I use a mild face wash and a moisuriser in the morning, I double cleanse at night and have recently stopped using any moisuriser at night (have dry skin) and the difference it has mmade to my skin is incredible.

No longer wake up with a slighly saggy, slightly puffy oily face, instead my pores have tightened, and lots of my lines disappeared.

Am starting to think all the night cream shit is just another massive con, not that it makes you look younger, that is obviously bollocks, but that it is needed at all.

Passthecake30 · 29/11/2013 07:22

I use clinique, so at night I cleanse, with ccomforting cream cleanser, uae the 3 steps and then turn around cream

In the morning I use the everyday scrub, the 3 steps, and super defence

Plus eye cream

Cupboard is jam packed with clinique but my previously senaitive skin is fab.

Goodasitgets- what toners do you use? How do you know what does what?

goodasitgets · 29/11/2013 08:32

I use bravura ginseng toner for exfoliating and a Lancôme one for hydrating at the moment
It's an adapted caroline hirons routine

CointreauVersial · 29/11/2013 09:12

Never.

Just use plain water while in the shower.

HyvaPaiva · 29/11/2013 09:22

I did for many years. For some reason, I stopped for a while and my skin looked amazing. The natural oils that my skin produced overnight, when left without cleanser in the morning, had a plumping effect. I just use water on my face in the shower now and lots of moisturizer. Occasionally I'll use Ole Henriksen's collagen boost serum too. I exfoliate once a week using either Eve Lom or Origins 'Never A Dull Moment' for a deep clean. Once a fortnight I use an Icelandic 'Blue Lagoon Silica Mud Mask' too. My skin looks and feels so much healthier without a cleanser.

Yes. As the skin care guru Caroline Hiron's says... why wouldn't you? I don't go for an all singing all dancing cleanser in the morning. Just something simple, gentle and I use a flannel.

I cleanse my face every morning as part of my daily shower ritual using the aveda tourmaline cleanser....I think I'd feel grubby and wouldn't feel right for the rest of the day if my routine ritual is disturbed....Confused

Chewbecca · 29/11/2013 14:45

Yes, I use a foaming face wash in the shower. The idea of not doing so is a bit weird, I wouldn't feel clean.
However, my skin is not the best so take no notice of me!

ElizabethBathory · 29/11/2013 14:48

Thanks for all your replies. I think I'm going to experiment with using only a tiny bit of cleanser in the morning, then maybe cut it out altogether and just use water and see what happens.

I like Caroline Hiron's tip of not putting your face under the hot water of the shower, or letting the shampoo run all over it -makes sense. But 'double cleanse and double tone' hahaha. No.
