motoring themed party wear

Just got a secret message re a party me and DP are going to. I quote:

the party will now be automotive sports themed, so please come along appropriately dressed up. Think vintage, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the Monte Carlo Rally circa 1940, Audrey Hepburn in that white scarf and Goodwood Revival. Join us donning your best goggles, moustaches, leather flaps and a smudge of motor oil

I am happy to buy something (has to be fairly quick though! as party less than a fortnight away) - am size 16, 61 with long greyish hair, plump hourglass shape.

Of course, I immediately thought of MN (though as old hippy don't get on S&B much Blush

Any ideas?

PS what am I supposed to do with this images thing?

Could you pick up a brimmed straw hat at a charity shop and tie a long, pale chiffon scarf over the top, fastened by a bow under your chin? Very truly scrumptious!

Elbow length gloves would look good too.

That is one hell of a difficult dress code!!

If only I had my old school boater (much hated at the time!) Good idea, and I've got a suitable scarf.

Ideas for DP also welcome - he was planning to wear his lounge suit (which I haven't seen, we don't live together and our lives are fairly independent). He has overalls, but I think perhaps not!

A 60s version of The Stig.from Top.Gear if the stig had been around at the time
Penelope Pitstop (Wacky races) inspired
60s style with italian styling as a homage tp The Italian Job film?
