Winter wedding outfit, dress already chosen

Help please! I have this dress that I'm planning to wear to a winter wedding in a fortnight.

here

I'm planning to wear a smart black coat and red pashmina over the dress with black opaque tights but need some inspiration for shoes and other accessories. Could I get away with red shoes? Thank you

Yes, will be fine.

BunnyLebowski · 24/11/2013 18:06

Nice dress.

I think the black and red accessories might make you look like an air hostess.

I'd wear a cream faux fur jacket and ditch the pashmina. Not needed especially with a dress avec sleeves.

I would wear red shoes with opaques but according to MN it's a sartorial faux pas!

Dilidali · 24/11/2013 18:13

I love the dress. I wouldn't wear it with red shoes, personally, might be a bit too christmas tree :)
Black or even cream/white pshmina, or some faux fur stole?
I would wear a very red lipstick though.

Dilidali · 24/11/2013 18:14

bunny, great minds Grin

NorthernLurker · 24/11/2013 18:17

Personally I love red shoes. I think I would just wear the coat though and not the red pashmina.

fififolle · 24/11/2013 19:21

Thank you so much for the suggestions, how about
this
or this?
I think I will probably stick with the original black shoes!

I was posting about a similar dilemma I have for a wedding next week.

Love the dress and I would wear with a cream pashmina - Im not a fan of furs, although I do admire them on other people.

Do you have to wear black tights? Id do those lovely red courts from John Lewis but would never wear them with black tights.

fififolle · 24/11/2013 19:36

What tights would you suggest? makingdo?
Thanks x

Well if it was me I would brave the winter and put a little tan on my legs but if you need to wear tights you could wear sheer tights.

I think the outfit will look less weddingy if you wear opaque tights tbh

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/11/2013 19:43

I'd wear nude tights or micronets, and the red shoes. Not a fan of black tights with red shoes.

MrsLettuce · 24/11/2013 19:45

yes, those red shoes and black opaques. Perfect. Understated black clutch.

I get why you'd want to throw a pashmina over the black coat but white/cream would be better than red (and I adore red).
Obviously a pashmina wouldn't look right over a sleeved dress but I didn't get the idea you were thinking of doing that anyway.
TBH I'd go with a nice big brooch pinned on your coat over a pashmina anyway. With the red shoes you wont need as much to 'break' the black coat.

How will you wear your hair?

fififolle · 24/11/2013 19:46

Thank you makingdo looking at it, you're absolutely right about the opaques. I'm not brave enough to go bare legged!
Why colour micronets would you mean statistically?

OP posts:
fififolle · 24/11/2013 19:47

What colour not why!!

'Nude' legs, either with hosiery or tan could make it look awfully frumpy, I think. Certainly with black shoes, it'd be well worth a try with red shoes but I fear it could still be borderline.

fififolle · 24/11/2013 19:57

Mrs Lettuce thank you for your suggestions, I was planning I wear the pashmina with the coat to the church which is apparently quite cold. I've got a nice brooch which would work well. I was planning to put the top part of my hair back- it's medium length, quite thick.

fififolle · 24/11/2013 19:59

I was veering towards sheer black/ micronets but have a strong aversion to flesh coloured tights!

Urgh, cold. Pashmina it is then Wink

Either nude or black micronets would work I think. Personally I look far worse with totally bare legs, but then my legs are verging on blue

fififolle · 24/11/2013 20:26

Black micronets ordered, red shoes ordered, pashmina hidden since our wedding located! Many thanks to the Mumsnet styling crew Thanks

Good luck with it all OP and enjoy the wedding!

Just had to google micronets and I think they will look fine (although Id personally go sheer with the red shoes and black with the black shoes)
