I would like a few new casual day time outfits but don't know where to start!

I'm a sahm and don't treat myself to clothes often.

I currently own 1 pair of jeans that aren't that flattering, a few tops, couple of dresses I wear with leggings. Nothing fab.

I want to treat myself to say 3 outifts, no huge budget (highstreet rather than designer). Would love some tips on where to look and what for, I hate clothes shopping but seriously need to go as looking scruffy/mumsy is getting me down.

I am 31, 5ft6, have large norks (34/36GG), a bit of a rounded tummy, big thighs. Sad I just want a couple of outfits I can put on and think "yeah, I look okay in this".

Please help!

I'm a sahm , I have a wardrobe of mostly skinny jeans / straight with boots ( I wear uggs ) and fitted jumpers . They are easy to interchange and fling on and also wash . Also invest in a decent coat then you will always look smart as you will ok doubt be outside a lot .

LonelyGoatherd · 22/11/2013 14:05

Am also a sahm and have a high st budget. I wear jeans, pretty top and cardi (well, I plan to - I need to get shopping as have virtually no knitwear and am freezing!).

Dotty P is good for tops that won't break the bank, and boden has a sale on right now.

Second the vote for a fab coat, plus boots and bag (all 3 of which I need!).

I love indigo jeans, as I think they look smarter than traditional blue jeans. I also like jet black jeans, that look more like trousers - they can be dressed up for smarter events.

Tops wise, I like oasis and warehouse.

If I were you, is have a look now and try I some stuff , but hold out until the sales as you'll get more for your money.

Thanks for these posts. I got a nice day time type dress in Tesco today that I can wear with black tights and boots.

I cleared out loads of skinny jeans a while back as I looked awful in them, I don't think they do much for my shape. I currently own one pair of jeans that are some where between skinny and boyfriend if that makes sense.

I got shot of everything old, bad fitting, faded, etc and now have hardly anything left!

Used to like Dorothy Perkins but last couple of tops I bought in there got returned as they ended up looking like a bag of rags after washing.

Waiting for the sales is maybe a good idea..

how about these cardis? I just got a couple to brighten things up (not sure how warm they'll be though).

Have you tried pepperberry? They cater for big boobs and I've picked up a couple of nice things there. I also feel like skinny jeans don't suit me, I wear cord skirts with tights and boots and also have a pair of wider leg trousers from my old 'work wardrobe' which I dress down with t-shirt and cardigan, so I don't look too formal for toddler groups, etc.

yourhand I agree with giving up on skinnies. They are so unflattering on so many people. I find bootcuts (yes really) or skinny flares so much more flattering. The Boden ones are good, and usually go to halfprice in the sale.
my sahm capsule wardrobe (I think I need more btw) is boots, jeans, thermal vest, pretty top (I have 3 or 4) and cardi (I have). I need a better coat but waiting for the Jan sales.

For jeans try Next relaxed skinnies, they're a skinny shape but looser cut so much more flattering for anyone with a curvier shape - you should be able size down which is always a good ego boost! Think they're about £26 and they do them in different colours.

I've been wearing mine with a tweed blazer I got from, of all places, Primark and it looks really nice because the blazer is quite fitted which again is very flattering.

I will check out those jeans thanks CambridgeBlue. Smile

The only pair I own were from matalan, where I also got a lovely sparkly jumper - have been practically living in this outfit!

Lonelygoatherd - I love that blue, have an evening dress in that colour and always get compliments, maybe I should buy more blue stuff.

Listen - not heard of pepperberry but will check out link. I am very curvy and it can be hard to get stuff that fits just right.
