is this dress too young for an 'almost 40 year old' (size 12, decent legs)

Loathe the dress but if you like it - enjoy! Wine

I would wear it with these type of tights:

And silver Mary Janes like this:

I thnk it it's fine - so long as you don't go overboard on the accessories. In fact I think that any jewlery at all would tip it over the edge.

Sparky tights and silver shoes with a dress like this would be fine if you're under 30 or going for an 'eccentric' vibe.

But that's just my opinion (only discovered Style and Beauty recently and not sure how tactful we're supposed to be Smile)

lifesgreatquestions · 21/11/2013 13:16

I don't like it but I can see a woman of any age wearing it actually, I think you'll be fine - and am envious of those with good legs!

DuckToWater · 21/11/2013 13:19

I'm 38 and would still do silver shoes - I don't worry about age or fashion though, I think about what suits me.

Twit · 21/11/2013 13:23

On some people it would look amazing, on me ridiculous. If you like it, go for it.

wordfactory · 21/11/2013 15:55

Yikes!

Not my cup of tea. But nowt to do with age. If you like it OP, go for it.

Twinklestein · 21/11/2013 16:06

I don't think it will be very flattering: the frills on the skirt make the model's hip look like it sticks out.

It's a bit Alex Gerard...

Fluffy - I think the general rule is to be as tactful as you would be if you were speaking to someone in real life, so you're fine. Grin

I'm 5"10' and though I'm a size 10, I think it'd look slightly drag queen-ish on me, which is a shame, as I really like it. I love the Margot Leadbetter vibe it gives off though, yep, she would definitely wear it in a bright colour!

suebfg · 21/11/2013 18:03

It's cute - I like it!

bigbrick · 21/11/2013 18:08

I like that too MrsDeV. I have bought one quite like it with perhaps more structure (support for lumps and bumps)...

I don't like it, sorry. I think it would make most people look like a slightly deranged lampshade.

FluffyJumper · 21/11/2013 20:17

Fucking hellfire, there's not many people could get away with that dress MrsDeV!

LostMarbles99 · 21/11/2013 20:21

It looks like one of those nighties that people would wear with ostrich feather slippers, you know the ones with a heel?!

Sorry op!

theidsalright · 21/11/2013 20:28

Nope, don't like it but the question was about you age and I'd say if you like it, wear it, what age you are doesn't matter!

PosyNarker · 21/11/2013 21:30

Don't see the issue. It's a bit girly and a bit goth so depends on your personal look IMO, more than your age.

I think it's lovely Smile

Eastpoint · 22/11/2013 05:50

It looks really pretty & would be great with short hair or long hair put up. V easy to wear to work Xmas party/partners Xmas party as it isn't too revealing. My only concern would be the sleeves getting in the way if you were having dinner.
