What make up do I need to wear to look made up?

My DH took a picture of me yesterday 2 hours after I thought I'd put a face on and I look like I've no make up on. I'm very nearly 40 I'd like to look made up sometimes but I never seem too.

I just don't know what I'm doing wrong, any tips???

Define your eyebrows, mascara. Red lipstick? Very much depends on your complexion!?

I've added the picture to my pictures, you should be able to see it. Ignore the cute puppy ;)

I think people look for bright colours and contrast when they "see" makeup. This is why people think you aren't wearing any, when you're probably wearing quite a bit of subtle makeup!

My suggestions:
Eyeliner, some darker eyeliner on the top lid only will make your eyes stand out. Go for a dark plum lipstick. Your skin looks nice in the pic, are you sure you're nearly 40?! Just some blush and concealer, and blow dry your hair so it has volume and adds to your groomed look.

bigbrassband thank you! I'll be 40 in 17days!
My hair does actually normally look better, but I pulled it back to play with the puppies.

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

You need mascara, eye shadow, blush, earings and if you want to look good in pictures remember to wear a bit stronger make up for the purpose, e.g. brighter lipstick, more blush...

I think much of the issue is down to the lighting in the photograph to be honest. In daylight you probably look made up, it's just the harsher light reflecting off your forehead and cheeks that makes you look a little washed out.

It's the light.

That aside, make up is always best when you don't look made up!For day anyway!

Bright lipstick will always make a face look 'done'.
Find a red or bright pink in a shade that suits you?
Looking at your complexion i think a cool toned red would look really nice.
