tube skirt - pear shape?

ShyGirlie · 18/11/2013 22:28

do u think pear shapes can get away with tube jersey skirts?

Tried one on, my mum said no. i liked it! she says it makes me look "very pear shaped" and "hippy". I thought it was more flattering than typical skirts. Yes it def showed my pear shape, but us there anyhing wrong with a rounded bottom?!?!

It was quite form fitting, and what id call midi length - mid shin. what do u reckon?!?! scared of comitting a faux pas! Normally size 12 on top, size 12-14 on bottom.

I'm a bit pear shaped and I have three! Yes, they do emphasise your curves but I like that, it makes a change. I think they're way more flattering on me than say, skinny jeans.

I am quite careful about the length - the shorter they are, the bigger my thighs look so I like them to end just below the knee (I have short legs so anything longer looks wrong).

I always wear them with 'big pants' and I try and balance out my top half with a good bra and, sometimes, a big necklace or something. And I only buy the double layered ones - the single layers are very unforgiving.

Of course I may look back in a few years and go 'What was I thinking?!' but, you know what, I don't care. If you like it, get it - life is short.

Floisme, please could you link to your skirts? The sound just what I have been looking for.

AnythingNotEverything · 19/11/2013 07:26

Of course you can - just dress wisely on your top half to balance your shape ie something voluminous or patterned.

Floisme · 19/11/2013 08:06

Basking Seals, I'm just heading off to work but I'll come back and do the links this evening.

Pufflemum · 19/11/2013 11:14

Topshop have double layered tube skirts that can sit above, below or on the knee.
I have one and am pear shaped, I balance the skirt with a boxy shaped jumper and ankle boots and often get lots of positive comments.

Skinheadmermaid · 19/11/2013 12:31

They worked on me and i'm pear shaped.
I can't wear them though, they ride up into a mini skirt!
Whats the secret for keeping your tube skirt in place?!

Floisme · 19/11/2013 18:03

Baskingseals these are the links to my 3 tube skirts. They are all at different price points:

Top Shop do this one in a few colours. It has started to bobble a bit but I think it's pretty good value for £20.

If you can spend more, this Whistles one is recommended by a lot of posters. It's in a more substantial fabric with better sucking in powers. I got it for £40 through the John Lewis website on an online sales days so it might be worth looking out for the next one.

And this was my spendiferous purchase/treat for autumn/winter:

I normally only buy Me & Em in the sales but couldn't resist. The fabric really holds you in and then the ruching camoflages all your lumpy bits - genius! My only complaint is that it rides up a bit when I walk fast (which I do a lot.) The dark green one is 25% off at the moment.

All of them are double layered and midi length. Because I'm short, I wear them quite high up on the waist so that they finish just below the knee. (That's another advantage of tube skirts - you can have them any length you like.)

I am a linking virgin so I hope these all work!

baskingseals · 19/11/2013 18:17

Oh thank you Smile I like them all. Trying to break free from uniform of skinny jeans and long tops. Do you wear them with shoes or boots?

lovelychops · 19/11/2013 18:34

Are the skirts forgiving on those without flat stomachs? The skirts look great, as though they could be dressed up or down - but do you need to be quite thin to wear them?
(Sorry to hijack op)

Floisme · 19/11/2013 18:44

Baskingseals so far I've worn them with ankle boots or biker boots. I'm trying to wean myself off skinny jeans too!

lovelychops I would say that the double layered ones are all pretty forgiving but to stay away from the single layer ones as they are not!
Of the 3 that I linked, the Me & Em one is the most forgiving because of the ruching but the Whistles one does suck me in pretty effectively. The Top Shop one isn't bad either plus I always wear it with big, sucking-in pants which does the trick for me Grin

Floisme · 19/11/2013 19:02

skinheadmermaid sorry I meant to reply to you too. I've heard other people complain about the riding up but I've only had it happen with the Me&Em skirt and then only sometimes (still a bit annoying as it's the most expensive one). I had put it down to the fact that it's slightly longer than the other 2. Although they are all midi length I hoik them up and wear them just below the knee as I'm too short for calf length. That's a complete guess though, sorry!

lifesgreatquestions · 19/11/2013 19:24

I am a pear and if I wear a skirt I go for fitted pencil, tube, etc., anything else just bulks me out whereas these give shape. Love the ones you've linked to Flo!

ShyGirlie · 19/11/2013 22:58

Thank u! Going for it! Grin
