eyelid eczema and eyemake remover

If you suffer from eyelid eczema can you please recommend an eye makeup remover that doesn't aggravate it, please
DD ocassionally suffers from dry patches on her eyelids, which I suspect may be eczema (had it on hands when a child) but now she is older likes to wear mascara which she needs to remove, so was wondering what products you could recommend. TIA

This stuff is pricey but lasts a very long time and is the most gentle and thorough eye makeup remover I have ever used. An amount the size of a small pea will take care of both eyes, you just massage it in gently and wipe off.

Do you know what she is reactive to? I don't have eczema, just very sensitive skin and I use this which I use with the hot cloth method (smooth it on, leave for a bit, remove with a flannel soaked in hot water, then go over again with flannel soaked in cold water). It removes my mascara, but I'm not sure it would work with water-proof or long-lasting mascara. All the ingredients are listed, I think most of them are pretty non-reactive, but geranium oil might be an irritant for some people.

Lush Ultrabland removed with Lush Eau Roma toner or water on cotton wool is about the only thing my eyelids will tolerate. That or Vaseline, also removed with wet cotton wool.

Depends on how bad the eczema is. I had some on my eyelids as a teenager but it has got better over the years but still can be aggravated.

Now as a sensible adult I just lay off the eye make up for a few days as all of the make up/cleaning/wiping etc makes it worse. However as a teenager I didn't and tried brands like (casts mind back into the mists of time) Body Shop chamomile eye make up remover and Simple. I found vaseline made things worse and it would make the eczema sting. I now use hot cloth method and Simple eye make up remover if my eyes are a bit fragile.

Try coconut oil. All natural & nourishing.

Thanks for the quick replies . It is only ever the occasional dry patch which clears up quickly with Cetreben cream (think it may be slightly stress related - dd is 15 yrs doing GCSE's and with the usual friendship troubles at school :( )

I've got some organic coconut oil already so she can try this tonight and I'll get her some of the other removers for Christmas so she can do a bit of "trial and error" with the other makes. Again, thanks :)

You could use aqueous cream from Boots etc- very cheap and non irritating.

I use the oil method - get a couple of drops of pure almond oil, rub all over face and eyes (with eyes shut, obviously), wipe off with cloth run under hot tap and rung out. I have very sensitive skin and any makeup remover aggravates it, this is the only thing that doesn't.

The body shop aloe cleanser or their chamomile eye make up remover.

Actually, just thought of another one, Boots Botanics do an oil and water layered one, that is fine for me too.

Aqueous cream is not recommended for excema now.

I use an oil like olive or almond. Comes off so much easier than any makeup remover I've used and is cheap !!

The absolute gentlest I've found (and I have ocular rosacea and blepharitis) is Kiehl's Supremely Gentle Eye Makeup Remover, and they offer a money back guarantee on their products. It is about £17 a bottle (it's like a lotion/ milk with no fragrance and it goes a long, long way) and you can buy from kiehls.co.uk or John Lewis (you could do click and collect if you have access to a store). I recommended it to someone here last week who was really struggling to find a tolerable emur and tried and loves it!

The way I use it is to take a tiny pea-sized blob, gentle massage into eye makeup, and remove with The Body Shop organic cotton pads moistened with warm water. Just a word of warning: it will not work on waterproof make up (which is not great for your eyes anyway!)

Just to add... I cannot tolerate bi-phase removers (those oil-in-water ones...think it's the silicones) or plain oils, even almond or olive; they make my eyes water, sting and smart. I honestly don't think it's a great idea to use oils or vaseline around the eyes (we have things called meibomian glands which can get blocked very easily when oils are used etc, resulting in styes and dry eyes).

Coconut oil is amazing for taking off makeup. It doesn't sting at all. Just use a tiny tiny fingernail scraping and the lot will be off in a flash.

Try blinc mascara- you just rub it with wet fingers to get it off.

Don't use aqueous cream. There is now a lot of evidence against its use, saying it exacerbates eczema.

I have eczema around my eyes and use coconut oil. It does the trick perfectly and doesn't irritate at all.
