do the roots yourself?

I went to my hairdresser for the initial transition from (dyed) dark brown to blonde, and have gone back every 5-6 weeks to have the roots bleached

I know what strength peroxide they use and how long to leave it on for (and I'd do a strand test first) pretty sure I could do it myself.

Partly to save money but also just to save the hassle of going to the hairdressers.

Or is that just a bad idea?

Surely someone has some helpful home bleaching handy hints?

I don't have blonde hair but good on you for seeing to roots regularly.
Dark roots and blonde hair - especially the done on purpose type - is ghastly IMO.

I have dyed hair at home though never more than those 24 washes ones (yet!).
You could always have an attempt at home and if it goes wrong go to hairdresser. If it goes right you can save time and money and hassle.
Get a friend to help.
Wear old clothes, you don't want to ruin nice clothes (or towels) with bleach. Have a magazine to read, have your phone so you can set an alarm, don't wander around the house with bleach or hair dye dripping.

i am bleached.....also dark brown...but i suit blonde more - however a high lift tint doesnt cut it - its bleach or nothing for my hair.

i wouldnt do it myself - i have roots done every 6 weeks and full head every 12.

though i am a dab hand with clippers for the men folks in my life im not sure i could do bleach with style and aplomb....

My teenage daughter has naturally light brown hair that is bleached an ash-blonde colour. I do her roots for her every few weeks or so; we use one of the 'Live' colours, they're the ones that look like they're in a smoothie/coffee cup! They're very easy to use and she gets loads of friends asking where she gets her colour done

Chandler, I've heard that the live blonde dyes are good, I've bought powder bleach and developer because I want to use a certain strength of peroxide.

I can see it'd be easier to have someone do it for me but I think that if I set up mirrors so I can see the back of my head it should be ok
