Sad

I have a cold sore on my chin and a big work event tonight. It's in it's crusty stage and about the same size of a 5p.

How do I cover it and stop it looking crusty???

I have smashbox photo ready primer
Estée Lauder foundation
Pale Rimmel powder.

I can run to a boots this afternoon if anyone has any suggestions of anything else I can use to make it un crusty.

Thank you!

You could try a coldsore cover-up patch and put your make-up on over it, but I don't think there's any way really of un-crusting it, sorry.

Are they the same as compeed ?

Get a patch and use mineral powder over it . I have done this before it works very well.

Vaseline is my favourite de-cruster. I use it for eczema and zits that I have picked I'm sounding gorgeous here aren't I.

Rub a bit in very gently, leave for a few minutes then rub gently again to clear away any crusty bits that the vaseline has dissolved or loosened. Then use a moisturizer, and the primer to smooth out the bumpy skin. Then your foundation, as sheer as possible, then if more coverage needed use a bit of creamy concealer. Powder on top is optional, it will help to set it, but may also make the unevenness more visible. Depends on the lighting etc.

Then I would have a neutral "lip" (:o always wanted to say that) and interesting/smoky/sparkly eyes.

I find bare minerals covers cold sores well.
Dab the primer on and dab on powder, don't buff or move the powder about just place it directly on the cold sore.

I've used the patch before but always find that it's more obvious with make up over it.

The Vaseline sounds the way to go!

Thank you!

Agree with the above, but remember to put the patch onto clean skin (no make-up, moisturisers, build up of skin oils etc) or it will peel off.

And be very very careful to use disposable applicators and not contaminate your make up. Wash your hands and don't spread the coldsore anywhere else.

LittleTulip · 15/11/2013 16:52

Any mineral based make up

EyeOfNewtBigtoesOfFrog · 15/11/2013 17:37

God yes that is very true about the contamination - apply everything very carefully without spreading and not directly from any applicators etc.

Cold sores are awful! Hope it works and you have a nice night out.

bishboschone · 15/11/2013 19:24

If it's scabbed it won't spread

bishboschone · 15/11/2013 19:26

Actually if it's crusty I would pick off the scab and put a patch on then mineral foundation over it ..
I'm a coldsore expert sadly ...the scab usually sticks out more than the coldsore itself .
