where can I get alterations to knee boots that are too long for my stumpy legs?

Is this even heard of in the UK? It seems a fairly commonplace service that most cobblers in the US and Europe offer but nobody I've spoken to here has ever heard of it.

I've bought a beautiful pair of knee high boots from Next, but they are about 2 inches too long for my little legs (they are touching the bottom of my knee cap). Folding the tops over looks silly (it's obvious that I've done it because they are too long!). I can't find anything comparable or as comfortable, and would like to keep these boots but have them shortened in the shaft.

Does anyone know if high street stores like Timpsons offer this?

You are better off with an independent shoemaker/cobbler, I went to our local 'hippy' shoemaker and they transformed my boots for fifteen quid, if timpsons do it I think it'd cost much more.
