Calling all hair colour experts - panicking a bit

Namechanged for this one for fear of outage! Smile I had my hair coloured by my normal salon 24 hours ago. I have dark hair and the brand they use is Inoa. The stylist got distracted and the upshot is my colour was left on for just over an hour.

My scalp is very itchy, but not weeping. Please reassure me my scalp isn't going to become a weeping sore mess. I presume I'm not going to have a full on allergic reaction, would that have happened by now? Do I wash it or will that irritate it even more? Would piriton help?

Thank you, O wise ones.

Wow, I hope you've complained to the salon owner!

You might get a free colour next time, at the very least :)

I doubt you have an allergic reaction, it's more likely that the skin on your scalp is now slightly burned and irritated. I would go straight to the salon and ask what natural products would be good for scalp burns, e.g. milk - think I heard this somewhere?

Thank you ticking! The salon is closed until Tuesday, so I'm a bit stuck until then! I will give them a ring though, so they can put it on the records that I'm a bit sensitive.

I looked on the Inoa website and it recommends colour is left on for 35 minutes but hopefully there is a generous margin for accidental timing errors.

Might try the milk thing though, thank you for that! Smile

Hello,

Effectively your colour was left on for twice the recommended time or thereabouts. Colour generally stops "working" 45 minutes, and by that I mean it won't process, so the colour won't lift or deepen any more. It's just a bit worrying that the chemicals were sitting on your skin for longer than they should have and it's likely that's the cause of the irritation.

You should definitely call the salon and complain. I know we all get distracted but leaving a client to go over during a chemical process is a big no no - bang your drum and definitely complain.

Hope you're not so itchy

You could easy the symptoms (if its burned) by applying some olive oil mixed with egg yolk on your scalp for 30 min - 3 hours.
