Hair straighteners recs, not GHD's as too pricey!

DD 12 has asked for hair straighteners this Christmas. Any recommendations? can spend up to £50. I saw some by Nicky Clarke and Remington on offer in Superdrug yesterday, but I'm a bit clueless on this! DD has thick hair, and we'd only be using them very occasionally. Thanks.

When I brought mine a couple of years ago I read a review in a fairly respectable beauty magazine which said that the best ones were GHDs but a close second were the Tesco own brand ones for £10. I brought the Tesco ones and they are absolutely fine.
