hair styles for the fat of face and short of time?

I am getting sick of scraping my hair back in a bun - it's now well below my shoulders in length, and out of control, so I need to gird my loins and arrange my annual hair cut.

Problems though, are as follows:

  1. I'm quite fat, size 16-18, and my face is well padded.
  2. I will never again have a fringe, after years of mum-cut fringes as a child.
  3. my hair is very thick, so if cut v. short, I look like a mushroom.
  4. since having DC, it has mad wavy bits, mainly under the top layer of hair on the right hand side. If un-straightened, it looks like a longer version of James May's hair.
  5. those little wispy bits since having DC now make me look a bit like a lion.
  6. I only have 10 minutes or so of a morning to 'style' it (generally with 2 DC jumping on me the whole time).

I am a bit sick of telling the hairdresser to do what they want whilst I close my eyes, so need some new ideas! Is the MN haircut worth a try?!
