My dh bought me some diamond studs (white gold posts) after my ds was born 6 years ago. I wore them for several years no problem but then all of a sudden they made my ears really sore. I can't wear them now which is annoying as they weren't cheap. I had the posts cleaned and re-coated but it's made no difference.

Is there anything I can do as I really would like to be able to wear them?

Was going to suggest recoating but saw you've already tried that.

How about trying a gradual approach? Consciously just wear them for a couple of hours at a time to try to let your ears get back to be used to them?
I have had occasional sore ears over the years and never really seemed to be the earrings just my ears being funny (IFYKWIM)

Could also try a thin barrier layer of Vaseline before you put them on each time?

Thanks chocolate. I have tried wearing them and within 10 minutes my earlobes are burning and go red and itchy?

I've had this. It was when I changed the backs of the earrings and the nickel in the new backs irritated my ears. Have you done that recently?

Mine did this.

Unfortunately can't wear earrings at all now.

Try covering them with a layer of clear nail varnish.

Sounds like you might have developed a nickel allergy, and sadly nickel is often part of the amalgam that makes up white gold.

I know it doesn't help for your current earrings but titanium ones are fine and you can even buy just titanium hooks to swap onto existing dangly earrings. I think the company I use is called Serenity Jewellery - I'll check.

Hi, I have this problem wearing any earrings with small backs, or when the back gets too close to the ear, sleeper style work well as do the ones they use for piercing ears as the back is v large and sits right at the end of the stem so air can get in. I wear these styles daily and then wear normal ones (smaller backs) for going out?
