I'm pretty sure my hair is thinning..

My hair used to be my pride and joy. It still looks reasonable I guess, there's just way less of it and doesn't hang as nice as it used to. Yesterday whilst brushing my teeth I noticed in the mirror that I could see my scalp quite clearly. Is there anything at all that can be done to remedy this, or this is it, middle age spread and bad hair is the way forward? As it happens, I'm going to the hairdressers today for my half head highlights and a cut, and I fear they're going to suggest a cut that will definitely make me look.. well, my age.

I'm taking Nutrihair which has good reviews, not seen a lot of change yet.

Nioxin (shampoo, conditioner) is supposed to be good too.

Have your ferritin levels checked. My friend was suffering from thinning hair and this was the root cause. She got her levels back up and her hair grew back in.

I went to my GP to have my ferritin levels checked due to my scalp showing / a slightly bald patch. It turns out my levels are actually too high (I didn't realise that was a thing) and am seeing a specialist later this month.

What is ferratin? Is it to do with iron?

The best thing Ive found to work on hair growth and combat thinning hair, is Brewers Yeast. You can get the tablets in Holland & Barrett. I know it sounds strange.. but its also what many dog owners use when entering dogs for competitions..! gives them a full, long glossy coat.

If you do this, combined with using Rosemary & Lavender oils in your hair, then you should see good results. Not against chemical treatments but Ive always found natural products work the best. Im sure there'd be online info about brewers yeast, and rosemary & lavender, so you can see how they can really benefit your hair follicles.

Its good to have iron and thyroid levels checked too as any deficiency etc can have an effect on your hair.

This is all really interesting and helpful, thank you! Will definitely get this checked out.
