Is it ok to wear dark nail polish to a job interview?

I have a job interview tomorrow, I am going in a black dress and a suit jacket.

I am currently wearing a plum coloured nail polish. Would this be appropriate?

If not, how do you get a dark nail colour off? I find it stains my nails and leaves dark marks around the nail.

Absolutely fine. Very smart.

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 07/11/2013 17:29

You should use a base coat when painting your nails. It stops staining.

I personally think the colour will be fine as long as its on tidy nails and not chipped.

PaperPomPom · 07/11/2013 17:34

Watching with interest. I have two interviews soon and am unsure what to do with mine.

TotallyAddictedToLurking · 07/11/2013 17:36

I've never used a base coat before, that explains a lot though. What would you recommend?

It's fine. Will look v smart

MissScatterbrain · 07/11/2013 18:10

Any clear nail polish or the base polish by Sally Hensen will be fine. As long there are no chips plum is fine too.

dizhin79 · 07/11/2013 18:32

I always go for opi nail envy, they usually have a duo pack on qvc with the opi top coat that works really well too Smile

chanie44 · 07/11/2013 18:58

I personally wouldn't wear dark nail varnish.

Personally, i wouldnt have a problem, but you don't know who is going to interview you and I always think its generally better to dress on the more conservative side for interviews.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/11/2013 20:45

I reckon plum is quite conservative.
As long as it's neat and your nails aren't talonous or all different lengths, it'll look great with the black.

Good Luck Totally

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 07/11/2013 20:51

I wouldn't.I'd go for neutral,French manicure or clear for an interview.

TotallyAddictedToLurking · 07/11/2013 20:54

Well as I didn't think to use a clear based nails are stained with the colour so would look stupid if I went neutral.

I hope it will look good with the black.

Now I know of about the clear base I won't be in the same situation I hope.

Bleach or lemon juice will get rid of the stain (I stained mine with permanent intense copper hairdye in August-there was a hole in the gloves when I was dying my hair Blush

TotallyAddictedToLurking · 07/11/2013 21:04

That's a good tip thank you Smile

Not good that it happened to you though!!

Yes yes to base coat....cheap is fine. As long as it's not chipped...can't stand chipped nail varnish it looks awful and that would seriously bug me in an interview and chewing gum, visible love bite and a black eye....these have happened!Shock

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/11/2013 21:06

As long as they are short and immaculate they should be OK I think (unless its for a very consevative job). I love plum nails.

chantico · 07/11/2013 21:12

It rather depends on the role you're being interviewed for, and the general dress code of the organisation. Sometimes it's better to go conservative for interviews (my staple is a restrained pale pink). But I've worn nearly every colour there is at work.

The trouble with darks is that chips show more, and will be noticed/judged at interview.

Viviennemary · 07/11/2013 21:19

I don't think plum nail varnish for an interview is a good idea. But it depends on the company.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 07/11/2013 21:21

Totally It happened on holiday,I looked a right idiot!!!

MsWinnieBaygo · 07/11/2013 21:22

I conduct interviews as part of my role for a corporate company & I wouldn't look twice or judge at someone with dark plum nail varnish. As long as it wasn't noticeably chipped

Good luck for the interview!

Oblomov · 07/11/2013 21:25

I think it is suitable.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/11/2013 21:29

Stick a black sharpie pen in your bag for emergency touch-ups!

polyhymnia · 07/11/2013 22:37

Yes fine this time as long it's dark not bright not chipped at all and nails not talon like. If there is another time would stick to pale pink/clear for interviews .
