help! wrecked stumps of eyelashes / piss holes in the snow

So...I did the most stupid thing. I had long eyelashes that my friends envied and was always being asked if they were false. For some reason this wasn't enough for me, even with lash building mascara, and I wanted to go the extra mile..have some oompth for a festival and also being lazy and thinking it would save time in morning so back in May I decided to go for extensions. Not the party ones but the ones that last longer. The salon told me it would not harm my natural lashes and I wouldn't lose many. Wrong! They lasted two months..which was great.. I gently soaked them off at home... but I lost a lot of my lashes. Still quite long but not many left and so spread out/ gappy. I should've stuck with waiting for them to grow back... but, I had got so used to the falsies.. couldn't stand the gappy look, so , back to the salon (I moved, so different one now, this salon says the complete opposite.. that of course you will lose lashes.,,) Since then I've been having 'party lashes' applied...which usually last well on me, two or three weeks. Except..it's a terrible habit to get into, at least for me. Last night I soaked them off.. half were falling off anyway (taking my own lashes with them)... and I was shocked at the two piggy eyes staring back at me. Still long lashes on the bottom line.. on the top line, nothing but tiny short stumps, well spaced out.. I wish I had never ever done this in the first place. I looked in my magnifying mirror --to depress self further)... pale thin spaced out lashes, bald in places, only a few mm long. :-( I put some mascara on to try and counteract the dead eye look and it just highlights the stubble , that is the only way i can describe them.. stubble :-( I have the eyes of a burnt out field!
So the burning q is.. why are they like this? Have they broken off? Or are these ones that originally got pulled out and being very slow to grow back? It looks so bad.. my eyes are my best feature. Or were. I've tried Rapidlash in the past when I didn't need to..grrr but it stung so I discontinued.
Is there anything to speed up growth? eg dietary etc.. has anything else had this and how long before they looked normal again.. could they ever get back to former glory? I feel like hairless freak.
Also getting really puffy on upper lids..and not having long lashes to distract.. tried cold pads on them, any ideas to quickly de puff?

I was REALLY tempted by lash extensions after seeing friends with them, but could never justify cost THEN they both told me about the damage they had done to their normal lashes, so it IS a common problem despite what anyone says at the salon! If I were you I would use mavala lash serum (it's the only one that works for me anyway) & I woukd rock some natural strip lashes or individual lashes until then. The glue is much gentler & will see you through the regrowth stage. Be REALLY gentle cleansing your eyes. I use (& strongly recommend) baby oil as it gently eats through any product & you don't have to rub. Also, use some eyeliner, black or dark brown, but I personally would use a softer line than a heavy painted one & use a darker eyeshadow in your eyelid creases & outter corners to really open up your eyes. I think it will take you a few weeks but you will get there :-)

Hopefully watery eyes shouldn't make too much difference to strip lashes as they're on the top lid away from any tears - the glue is quite strong & I'm always generous with it as it dries clear.

Apply the glue to the strip, give it a few seconds to start to go tacky, then apply the middle of the lash to the middle if your eye, then gently push the corners in place. Easy!

When I want extra oomph I use fibre lash mascara, either Alpha lashes or Relian. Model co is crap.

Payouts brush on transplanting gel which is a clear mascara, then usung a different wand you brush on black fibres, then seal with the clear wand.

If applied properly they do not flake off. You remove it as you would your usual make up and they do not damage lashes.

Might be a temporary fix for you.

I have very oily lids and find the no 7 eye pencils to be long lasting, use primer and powder first to extend the grip!
Or gel eyeliners are softer looking that liquid and last very well.

I did the same & end up with short stubby lashes. I put on individual cluster lashes but they still pulled out my lashes on removal.
Rapid lash really worked for me. 3 mths on I have long lashes again. I see you are allergic to Rapid lash though.

I was lucky as only suffered alopecia once and did not affect my hair on my head, just my eyebrows and eyelashes (there are several diff types and scalp often not affected). Even so, i felt like a freak when i left the house. Like OP i have always had dark, thick eyelashes and brows, so when clumps of them fell out they looked really gappy. I also found liquid eyeliner too much, especially as i wasnt used to wearing it at all. I used a dark brown one by Rimmel - not perfect but it made me feel much more able to leave the house
