Going from getting colour done at the hairdressers to home dye

I need to cut costs so I am going to stop getting my colour done at the hairdressers: it looks nice but we need the cash for other stuff, like Xmas and car repairs and my crappy teeth need bloody fillings again .

I'm a honey blonde at the moment and would ideally like to stay that colour, and my natural colour is a mousy brown with a bit of red in it, so I'm ginger but don't have red red red hair. I'm pale with freckles and brownish eyes.

I used to use Loreal Feriacolour bright red, but I'm 36 now and I don't think I can hack bright red or dark colours any more, and I hardly ever wear makeup.

So, what's the best colour/brand for this? I used to use henna but you can't use other dyes afterwards and it's a huge faff. And I would like to stay blonde ish.

Aw, come on, I'm going to end up with mismatched dodgy hair without your help! I'm not very good at hair stuff on my own.

Please?

There was a thread a few days ago about which home colouring dyes were best. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll try and do a link as it's in my watched.

Ooh, thanks! Will have a look when the DC are in bed.

I've just done my highlights at home with a Tesco kit and been told by a professional hairdresser that the result was 'not bad, not bad at all'. So I'd go for it, home colours are better than you think.

People on here rave about Daniel Field colours, so search for that. On the other hand, Headmasters, which is a national chain, has a half price colour sale at the mo, if you can't find the right home dye.

Thanks for your replies! I was getting lonely Grin

Hmm, Daniel Field look nice but I'm not sure I can do it as I want to go from fake blonde to fake blonde but have naturally mid brown hair. And I have the motor skills of a concussed halibut so daren't even try my own highlights.

Headmasters only seems to be south east, is that the case? I am in the wilds of Sheffield here and I don't think we have one.

I'm off to read this thread, which I think must be the one jennimoo was referring to:

Thanks again!
