Have you ever found an absolute bargain?

I find the odd good thing but Today, I got a grey jumper/jumper dress for 7 quid. Got it home and its merino and cashmere and by Joseph! Its like new and the most comfortable thing I have ever worn. I was after a slobby jumper to wear with leggings at home. Its amazing. Huge on me but I LOVE it. Had a name tag covering the label so I had no idea. Looking online it probably cost about £350 new! Bargaintastic! Made my day!

I have for quite a few bargains over the years - e.g. Lovely cashmere jumper for £7. But my local one has suddenly started charging quite ridiculous prices. E.g. £8 for a washed out H&M sweatshirt that you could buy for less in the sales. Anything "designer" is priced at £20 or more even if scruffy or old. I used to buy from there and also donate even more but I don't think I will now.

Same here Notcontent In the past i have got some real treasures but no bargains in this area now. Picked up a faded printed skirt in one not so long ago from George, no price so I asked how much it was and they wanted £7!! It probably wasn't a lot more than that new and before it had been washed 50 times. I appreciate its for charidee and all that but its put me right off going in there now. One of the others in our town has professional valuers come in and give their opinion on the older, rarer stuff and its not unheard of for what they consider to be valuable books to be £75 or even more. Probably why they sit on the shelves for years. Maybe its because we live in an area where their are loads of wealthy people. However there is also a lot of social deprivation and many of these people are priced out of charity shops now.

diane von furstenburg dress for £5.95

I work in a charity shop and it's astonishing the amount of designer stuff that we get and how customers seem to bypass the bargains. Things like Viyella cropped jacket selling for £9, DVF silk dress selling for £5 and still being on the rail by the end of its season. To be honest, location is the main factor and we do have a small customer base.

I recently bought a pair of Diesel jeans for £1.95 (50% discount for volunteer).

I got a Zara coat for £5.99 last week and it was exactly the type of thing I'd been hunting through Primark and New Look for before I went in :)

scurryfunge · 06/11/2013 00:48

Have found unworn Boden jeans for £4 and plenty of other high street unworn stuff for a couple of quid. I love charity stuff.

Floisme · 06/11/2013 07:16

A bobbled jumper from Next. Where are all these charity shops of which you speak? Smile All the ones near me are utter shite. And before anyone suggests it, I've already tried the affluent side of town and I haven't found a single one - I guess everyone's on Ebay.

theoriginalandbestrookie · 06/11/2013 07:27

Lovely Hobbs leopard print skirt for £7 and full length raspberry pink Boden wool coat for £17 although I did have to get it dry cleaned . The coat gets loads of compliments and is bang on style and colour for this season.

Both from a very naice charity shop beside Waitrose, they do know what they are doing pricing wise but some great stuff.
