Knee high boots and skinnies?

Can this be done without looking frumpy and dumpy? Since ankle boots have become so popular, I wonder whether it looks a bit too last year? Admittedly, I live in an area not renowned for being at the forefront of fashion Grin and my doubts aren't helped by the only examples I've seen over the last week or two, have been knee high flats with baggy bummed jeans and a blouson anorak - not a good look!

So, how to style this and look fairly stylish?

Mmmm... I wear FC or All Saints skinnies with knee high boots and I think I look ok but possibly not that trendy?! I'm not dumpy though which might help. Def the jeans need to be well fitting and argh no to an anorak!!

Trills · 01/11/2013 09:48

Whether you look dumpy in this will depend on whether you are dumpy, I'm afraid.

Tight jeans are not going to make you look any shorter or wider than you are, but if you are short and wide they won't make you look any less short and wide.

Your legs will be nice and cosy either way.

LordPalmerston · 01/11/2013 09:50

jeans HAVE to be super tight and boots nicely fitted

NoComet · 01/11/2013 09:58

Given long boots are for life not just Christmas ie they cost far too much not to wear. This look will be in fashion here for the foreseeable future.

And given I'm 5'4" and size 16 and over 40, I shall, undoubtably look frumpy and dumpy,

But not as frumpy and dumpy as I'd look with jeans tucked in to biker boots.

I love the long boot and slim fitting jeans look, very easy to style with tunics or sloppy knits to tight beatnik tops, I find them very versatile.

polyhymnia · 01/11/2013 10:01

I've seen some people looking good in this combination but personally (I'm tall and large) I always feel it looks too much like a principal boy in panto .

LordPalmerston · 01/11/2013 10:01

kate moss wears them well

NoComet · 01/11/2013 10:04

lordP having hit the nail on the head, boots have to be nicely fitted.

If you have size 4 feet and narrow ankles 90% of fashionable strappy, buckle embellished boots aren't. They flap about and look too big, even when they are not.

LordPalmerston · 01/11/2013 10:05

yes you can tell $$ boots

not some old crappy baggy thing

MrsMcGregor · 01/11/2013 10:36

Good answers! I think I've just seen some poor outfits out and about locally. It's a look I live in all winter but at 5'7" and a relatively slim size 10, I think I'm okay. I do know what you mean about the wellie look though. I have horribly skinny calves so have had to search hard for well-fitting boots .... thank you Duo and LK Bennett! Time to unpack them, me thinks! Star, I love your 'long boots are for life' line! Grin

I'm short and dumpy-ish but think I look ok in the skinnies/boots thing. I am, however, lacking a decent pair of boots. I'm going shopping at lunchtime today in central London, so if anyone has seen any nice ones anywhere, give me a shout!

I find Zara skinnies are good - they're like proper trousers but with plenty of streth so they fit well.

Actually, you lot might be able to advise: my favourite skinnies are black - quite smart. I'd really like decent boots and a good tunic/top to go over them, so I can do the smart/casual thing, which I usually fail to do well. Can I wear brown boots with black trousers? And where's good for tops? I'm not a very good shopper!

Blimey, when I clicked on your link, Foxy, my work firewall rejectected it on the grounds that it is apparently pornography! What on earth have you linked to?!

NoComet · 01/11/2013 10:58

My last pair of long boots were - one with my birthday money off my parents, the other with their Christmas money Grin

LordPalmerston · 01/11/2013 11:02

I like those linzi ones. Out of stock tho

FoxyHarlow123 · 01/11/2013 11:32

Really??!! It's just an innocent little shoe website - honest.

FoxyHarlow123 · 01/11/2013 11:32

Linzie shoes - google it and see if it lets you on that way.

noddyholder · 01/11/2013 17:26

This is my winter uniform tbh Think ankle boots have been done to death now unless flat. I like with twin set or little linen tops etc. Jeans have to be very tight around the knee too primark ones are good. Tunics not so good. So what if you have a big bum show it rather than wrap some tablecloth looking thing around it.
