Is this coat worth £190? It's a merrell one and I need your advice please? Is it remotely stylish?

this ellenwood one

I like this colour but I don't want to pay £190 if it's not worth it.

Also, does it look stylish or more a practical coat?

I like it and would buy it if my budget would allow, it's my favorite colour and I'm after a parka with hood and belt /waist definition.

nomorecrumbs · 26/10/2013 19:26

I don't think it looks very stylish for £190, sorry. It looks very practical though.

Don't think it looks stylish but very practical. Something my 60 year old Mum would wear - sorry!

WhoNickedMyName · 26/10/2013 19:35

I have this, but I got it for £130 from some outdoor shop online. I'll try and find an email to find out where.

It's a nice coat, warm, waterproof and surprisingly shapely - you still look like you have a waist whilst wearing it.

WhoNickedMyName · 26/10/2013 19:37

Ok, I lied. It was £139.99 from SkiMania.co.uk

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 26/10/2013 19:38

I love the colour but am not keen on the Ellenwood, although others rave about it and think it's stylish. You can get it cheaper though,so if you decide to get it search around online. You can pick up the black for £100!

I have ordered the Geraldine instead which,in my opinion,is more stylish. It's also more streamlined and fitted with a bit of stretch to it.I love the button detailing on the sleeves too.And yep,it's still waterproof!I just hope I like it when it arrives.

How long is the Geraldine? *triptrap- where did you get yours?

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 26/10/2013 19:53

I think it's mid thigh, waiting for it to arrive.Got it on Amazon but there are several places online that do it.

It's a fleecey/fluffy/furry lined one too so it's not bulky

LostMarbles99 · 26/10/2013 19:56

Which colour did you get? I really like the green but am having trouble finding it.

Any ideas where I should look?

slightly cheaper

I bought one last year. Its not high fashion (but neither am I!), but if your requirement list starts warm and waterproof, its about the highest you'll get in fashion stakes.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 26/10/2013 20:00

I got the conifer.Takes a bit of searching to find most of them tbh

PrimalLass · 27/10/2013 12:15

TK Maxx have some random Merrell styles. I got a Kedzie for £70-ish and there were some Haven coats in there a couple of weeks ago.

PatoBanton · 27/10/2013 12:19

No its far cheaper elsewhere.

I got a Haven from Sports direct and the quality was awful. Labels not sewn on properly, permanent creases and weird stuff like that - it was clearly made somewhere that no one really exercises QC.

Same with the boots but I love them despite the dodgy seams

no it isn't worth it

Didriksons OTOH are the bolleaux

Pinupgirl · 27/10/2013 12:50

No it is not stylish at all. Its frumpy imo. But if you are looking for a coat that will keep you dry and warm in the winter then I am sure it will do the job.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 27/10/2013 13:53

I'm glad people are saying it's frumpy!I thought I was losing the plot with everyone saying how lovely and stylish they are on here Blush I'm still concerned the Geraldine is a bit frumpy too,but it's definitely less frumpy.I just can't decide..Will have to see how it is when it arrives.

Wonder if there's something I could do to it to make it better?

foxysocks · 27/10/2013 15:01

i tried one on last year when everyone was raving about them. it was completely frumptastic on me. but many do love them, so i think it just depends on your taste and figure - maybe better on someone more curvy? I am a bit straight up and down.

LividofLondon · 27/10/2013 15:47

I love how the blurb says "...Dry, warm and devastatingly beautiful..." One thing I definitely would not describe it as is "devastatingly beautiful"...devastatingly dull and overpriced more like!

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 27/10/2013 16:00

Speaking of dull and frumpy (and a lover of Ellenwoods)...

Why does everyone recommend the school gate style blog?I find it largely dull and/or frumpy and boring. It's aimed at late 30's to 40's and this whole horrible ankle boots on show, boring top, ucky coat and ten zillion scarves thing is really boring, lacking personal style and is how I'd picture older women to dress.

Is it just me that finds it dull, too old (I'm 31) and find it sad that 'personal style' these days is a bunch of ankle boot and in your face pointless scarf clones?

NettoSuperstar · 27/10/2013 16:06

Not stylish.
I got the Haven for £50 last year and love it, a much nicer coat

Drywhiteplease · 27/10/2013 17:32

Depends what you're looking for OP.
I bought the Wakefield in black last year for my job which involves time spent outside. It is what I call a "performance" coat and I wear it almost every week day. Completely waterproof and obv wind proof.
It isn't a fashion statement and I wouldn't wear it on weekends unless I was standing on rugby sidelines or in the park with kids. I prefer the Geraldine style wise.i think my coat, cost per wear, has been money very well spent.

mojojomo · 27/10/2013 21:07

Netto
I was looking at the haven recently and noticed that it is described as water resistant, rather than waterproof. How have you found it to stand up to the rain? I'd be wearing it without using an umbrella. Also, what colour did you get? I like the light colour (birch).
