Please find me a Gilet that is flattering!

Or maybe tell me why it's a bad idea! I'm a strapping lass - 5'10", size 12-14 with monster boobs so I don't want anything that will add too much bulk. Any thoughts?

I don't think such a thing exists

Sainsburys have some. V lightly quilted but they have press studs and you can bring the waist in on them
About £18

mysteryfairy · 25/10/2013 10:53

I don't think there is a gilet in existence that works well with monster boobs!

QueenQueenie · 25/10/2013 10:53

You have more chance of finding a unicorn.

Lol Queen

I'm very similar size to u, so far I have tried :- karrimor - v bulky, joules - not bulky but short in body so norks make it ride up, north face - bulky, I have just seen a nf one that isn't so bulky but haven't tried it yet.

I just lounge in my karrimor one looking like the Michelin woman when it gets nippy!!

Gilets are not flattering.

They are an item that you look good in spite of, not because of.

Hmm - think you're all confirming my worst fears!

Im not as tall as you (5'6.5") but still have 32G norks which are quite a drawback when trying to dress well. I did a 'gillet hunt' a few months ago & ended up buying one from Dubarry. Its black, zip up, with slanted slit pockets, no breast pockets (as if) and ... crucially, it's beautifully fitted and tailored so makes me go in as well as out. Out of all of them, this was the best.

Are you talking quilted, shearling of fur?

I have done extensive research into this area and its not true that they're all unflattering but you do need to try many on to find the right one.

I have a denim and supply navy quilted one for practical purposes - walks/gardening etc. I also have a black faux fur one from a label called Unreal Fur - its pretty slim fitting and the fur is longish but flat so doesn't add bulk.

ASmittenKitten · 25/10/2013 16:15

MrsCB - would you be an angel and link to the navy denim number if possible. Thanks

ASmittenKitten · 25/10/2013 16:16

Oops - sorry. Should add - I am the op. Name changed mid thread - doh!

MrsCampbellBlack · 25/10/2013 16:19

navy one but its a couple of years old now.

ASmittenKitten · 25/10/2013 16:37

Oohh MrsCB - you have exquisite taste but way out of my price range :(. Also checked out Unreal Fur on ASOS - again, gorgeous but out of my reach. Thanks for the links though.

Paribus · 26/10/2013 01:55

Uniglo- thin, don't add any bulk at all.

AmberNectarine · 26/10/2013 07:54

Agree that it's nearly impossible. I have a Michael Kors fur one that I like very much, but it does bulk me out. I have to wear it with a very fine layer underneath and skinny jeans to avoid the yeti effect.

dottyaboutstripes · 26/10/2013 08:45

I have an Aigle Horsiz which is incredibly warm but not at all bulky

FlabbyAdams · 26/10/2013 10:00

No one looks good in a gilet they are not flattering on anyone.
I suppose some may look less shit than others but if looking good is a must for you then forget the gilet.
If keeping toasty os more important than style then go ahead and keep warm.
There are more stylish ways to keep warm but don't panic if you do go down the gilet route because it seems as a nation we are putting comfort above style where the gilet is concerned. You won't be alone.

MrsCampbellBlack · 26/10/2013 10:03

Flabby - I think some people do look good in gilets. I look lovely in my fur one and have seen many women looking amazing in shearling ones.

Trills · 26/10/2013 10:36

Some people looks good in gilets.

But they are not flattering.

Some people would look good in a hessian sack, but that doesn't mean that hessian sacks are flattering, it means that those people have the particular shape or colouring or je ne sais quoi that allows them to look good in a hessian sack. It does not mean that you should try wearing a hessian sack, because yu probably don't have it.
