Gap knits - super fine merino yay or nay and opinions? if any

Saw a extra/super fine merino sweater (crew neck) in a dark green colour in Gap £39.95 - good for work I'm going after work to buy a small.

Question is - how good are Gap's knits?

I bought a not cheap Whistles wool mix sweater recently and am disappointed. It marks and wrinkles really easily. Luckily I got it with Grazia 25% off.

Loved it, bought it, it creased badly on first wear, snagged it and it's got a huge hole in the front. Might be because I have hyperactive boys who jump all over me. Now regretting that I spent 40 quid on it and obv can't return it due to the hole. It's becoming a very expensive gardening jumper.

ah thanks!

I don't have kids... but I think i will rethink before buying it. the one instore had snagged already....

whether due to people handling or just too delicate I don't know...

I've got a couple of gap merino jumpers - I've been happy with them. I wash them on the wool wash or by hand, and they've not snagged that I can think of! My kids are older though. They'll have 30% off soon surely - maybe wait for that?

I like gap knits but surely there will be a 30pc off voucher soon!

try woolovers merino/cashmere. They do classic crew jumpers and cardis in loads of colours for about 35 quid. Silk / cashmere a bit less.
Their merino cashmere knitwear is machine washable and after the first couple months, once the loose fluff has bobbled off ( use a de-bobbler) they come up really clear and fine in the knit.

Not as good quality as they used to be- mine from the past 3 years have gone bobbly very quickly, and developed holes too, whereas those I've had much longer look in better condition! Hmm

In fact the sleeve seam just split on the (gorgeous) plum sweater I purchased last winter (to replace 1 purchased the previous winter Angry you think I'd have learned!)

Just discovered Uniqlo merino wool jumpers. Am going to be buying a lot more of these. Less than £20...

pseudonymity · 25/10/2013 04:27

Mine didn't bobble. Merino doesn't bobble generally, though I had one pair of Falke merino tights that bobbled badly, all others bought at the same time were fine! I shrunk 3 gap merino cardigans (!) by putting them in the synthetic cycle instead of hand wash cycle. Quality is good. Be aware that fine knit merino like Gap and Uniqlo does snag really, really easily, it's how it is woven. I bought a uniqlo one this season, have two snags already. Many uniqlo sizes/colours now sold out and they don't restock. Cashmere is far more hard wearing in my experience.

Gap merino is great and they have 15% off today gapstyle is the code
Uniqlo ones are a bit thinner but great value

Snowlike · 25/10/2013 07:23

Agree Uniqlo merino is thin and snags easily.
