Where the hell sells nice coats for tall people?

I never post in here, mainly because I am pretty much devoid of all style and/or beauty, but I need help!

I'm 5'8" and size 8-10. I want a proper warm but smart winter coat. Where can I buy one from?

This is my perennial problem! Why is it so hard to get the sleeves long enough and the waist to fall in the right place?!

My last two "smart" winter coats have been from the M&S outlet store, but choice is very limited.

Have you checked out the tall ranges?

RandallPinkFloyd · 20/10/2013 10:40

That's it isn't it! Try finding a nice belted coat that doesn't fasten under your tits and therefore make you look like a badly packed bean bag?!

Next have the most choice but they all seem really frumpy to me. Maybe I'm not looking at them right.

What about Long Tall Sally or Tallgirls.co.uk? I have a Hobbs mac that is just about right for me, I'm 5'11 so probably would fit really well for you.

It is an absolute pain in the arse though. There's so many tall ladies, but so little decent choice.

RandallPinkFloyd · 20/10/2013 10:59

Haven't heard of either of those (told you I was rubbish Blush)

I'll has a look, thank you!

The tall girls website is fab, thank you! They only have 6 coats though and they're all casual.

Long Tall Sally didn't have any nice ones either. Balls.

Is it me? Am I looking for a hideously unstylish coat? Am I the only twat who wants a trench coat style?

I don't think I like the quilted/Barbour style ones. Or do I? Are they actually quite smart looking and I just don't know what I'm talking about?

I'm 34 if that makes any difference.

You need to go and shop in a Scandinavian country, where the average woman is more Valkyrie, less vertically-challenged. Wink

Feeling your pain.

I have a lovely navy duffle from the Next Tall range, my previous parka was from there too, and I've had that eight years. Lovely long sleeves!

RandallPinkFloyd · 20/10/2013 11:30

Sunday the first 2 you linked to are the only ones I've seen so far that I actually like! I'd quite like a belt though.

Also, I'm a bit concerned that I'm properly behind the times. Are trench coats old fashioned now? Is that why they're hard to find? I thought they were a 'classic'.

I really am shit at this!

(Hmm, hadn't even considered a duffle. I'll go and have another look.)

I got mine from next. Its a red military one. Top shop h and m tall are good too.

RandallPinkFloyd · 20/10/2013 12:08

They all seem to be shapeless this year too. I'm 5 1/2 stone lighter than I was last winter. I'm not wearing a coat that will make me look bulky, god damn it! I want one that will be fitted and flattering.

I want the moon on a stick don't I Sad

I'm 5'9 and have an aigle trench. The sleeves are long and the waist sits in the right place. They do warm coats as well.

RandallPinkFloyd · 20/10/2013 14:50

I've never heard of Aigle. I'll have a google. The wast band is definitely low enough even on their standard size!

OP posts:
RandallPinkFloyd · 20/10/2013 20:23

Yikes, Aigle are a little out of my price range!
Thank you though, they have some lovely things.
