I am an inverted triangle with a splodgy tummy (used to be full on apple shape but lost weight). I feel like I have the most unfeminine body shape ever Sad. To make matters worse bit only do I have an undefined waist and no hips, I am long bodied as well, so dresses just seem to sit on the least flattering area of my midriff. I'm not really a 'dress' person, mainly because historically I just don't look right in them. The only dress I've looked okish in is one that has a sort of knot at the front so it hung from the booobs iykwim, and not fitted around the waist in any way. I loved the oasis skater knitted dress someone linked to on here, that's the type of dress if like but I think I'd look like crap in it. Any suggestions?

I sound a similar shape to you & would love to wear more dresses so will watch with interest.

i am similar shape and like the bauukjen dresses, the wrap dress is really nice and can be dressede up or down, also

I think you might mean empire line.

White stuff usually has pretty empire line dresses like this & this

Nologochic always do those knot dresses in different colours.

A shapewear slip is always good for smoothing out mumtum when you want to dress up.

Phase 8 has a selection of Empire line dresses at the moment.

chanie44 · 19/10/2013 11:55

I'm similar too. I have broad shoulders, big boobs, flabby tummy and Slim hips.

I agree empire line all the way. I quite like wrap dresses and tops as they can be adjusted. You need something that will balance out your bottom half.

Twinklestein · 19/10/2013 12:05

Yes Phase Eight are good for them & also Monsoon.

Thanks all. I thought empire line was the enemy of the hipless/flabby of tum as it makes us look pregnant??

Twinkle, thanks for the links, I think I prefer the nologo dress - I'm not a pattern type, prefer plain colours definitely.

Psst! Everyone looks shit in skater dresses - c.f., Demi Moore and assorted supermodels. If Elle MacPherson/Tess Daley look short & dumpy, wtf will it do to the rest of us?

Apileofballyhoo · 19/10/2013 13:26

Those dresses are lovely, twinkle.
