The rules of the little black dress....

So I'm going away for a romantic weekend. I don't ever really have the opportunity to dress up since having children. I have bought a black dress to wear for the evening. It's a shift dress style/shape with 3/4 length sleeves and it's just above the knee.

I need shoes to match? do I go for black or add a splash of colour? Also what style? I can't go really high as I hardly ever wear heels! Also I have bought black opaque tights but will this look too much with a black dress? Do I have to wear tights or could I go bare legged? I have good legs I think with still a hint of colour from the summer but I don't want to look cheap iykwim. Any hints would be fab. TIA.

How about black tights, shoes but with colourful accessories? Not red as I think it's very 80s with black.

The dress sounds lovely.

I personally think a bright colour with black can look a bit stark, so I'd probably go for either black, or maybe a grey/silver with silver jewellery. What about quite low heels, or slightly decorated ballet pumps?

I think black tights as well as relatively covered up arms might look a bit much. If you've got good legs then go for it! With longish sleeves and a just above the knee skirt I don't think you'll look cheap at all.

There are also quite a few pinterest boards that have suggestions to look at for how to accessorise an LBD. Like here.

what is the neckline of the dress like, and what is your hair like?

Link the dress if you can so that we can see what would look best with it.

Also what is your colouring like?

I like fine black fishnets with an LBD - if you're going for a lowish heel, they won't look tarty, and are actually very chic and flattering.
