Capacious waterproof(ish) bag that's not heavy, or covered in polka dots, posies, cupcakes or animals?

In an ideal world the bag would be leather, but in reality leather's a bit pricey and too heavy for my lazy bones to lug around .

Oilcloth would be good, but cutesy and oilcloth seem to be inseparable.

A4 messenger bag size/shape is probably what I'm after - or hobo bag style - needs to hold everyday crap and preferably have a few handy compartments. And cost less than £50. I'd be eternally grateful if anyone can point me towards this elusive holy grail.

Try Sew Nicely Done, she is only on Facebook, but was recommended to me a while back by someone in S and B. Lots of oilcloth fabrics, including the spots and flowers you don't want, but also has lovely stripes. Tons of options of styles and you can bespoke what you want. Might be worth a look, the lady who does it is really lovely too.

search reuz messenger bags in amazon. they are are patterned oilcloth but the patterns are much less cutesy

I like that they are zipped, fit a lot in, and are comfortable to wear.

at £24 mark they are a steal

North Face courier bags fit the bill, but may be too sporty for you.

here pricey at full price, but usually can find cheaper by Googling. I have quite a lot of North Face luggage, it is bomb proof.

Thanks so much everyone. Haven't got time to properly check them all out now (bloody work, getting in the way of handbag research...) but will get on to it later.
