Ankle boots and midi dress?

I'm the first to admit, I'm a bit behind with fashion trends, so I need to know if this is a fashion no no, or not

I typically wear midi dresses as I'm a bit taller than average and they come to just past my knee, in previous years, I've teamed these up with some knee high boots and a nice winter coat. But this year I am pregnant and I need to look smart for a conference I'm attending. I've bought a few pairs of flat boots and they just don't look right (I normally wear 3 inch heels)

I'm currently wearing thin leggings under my dresses as I can't seem to find maternity tights that don't ladder on first wear, but this means I have bare feet, which I was hoping to hide by wearing boots.

Can I get away with wearing ankle boots with a midi dress or is that a huge no-no and should I just bite the bullet and go bare legs with ballet flats/pumps?

Shameless bump as I need to go shopping tomorrow if I'm going to get these in time

Maybe chelsea boot ones would work that are fitted around the ankle?
easy to hoof on and off too when pregnant

Yes,I wear ankle boots with a midi skirt and am only small.I would echo the fact that they should be fitted and with a wedgy heel.
