What are my chances of getting a refund for this foundation ?

About 4 weeks ago I bought the new YSL Youth Liberator foundation. It was a toss up between this and the Teint Resist which I had originally intended to buy as it's apparently more suited to oily skin. Anyway, the consultant convinced me to try the new Youth Liberator one. It had a lovely finish and the colour was ok but had slipped off my face within about two hours. So I went back and she exchanged it for Teint Resist without any fuss.

My problem with this foundation is the colour. From what I've read YSL used to do a more extensive colour range but have now done away with the fairer colours. When I saw myself in proper daylight with this on I realised it was at least 2 shades too dark for me. And on top of that the oil control was shite.

So rather than bother the consultant again, I emailed YSL customer services directly to ask how I go about getting a refund. I still have the box but no receipt unfortunately. I'm reluctant to try yet another foundation as none of the others are suited to oily skin and I don't need eyeshadows or mascaras or anything else from the range. They emailed me back to say I should go back to the store and see the consultant and send the foundation back to them.

If you go back to department store they should refund on the YSL counter because they have made a mistake, if they won't ask for dept manager. Failing that go elsewhere and say you are allergic to it (I used to work for a prestige cosmetic co this one never fails!)

A v good chance. Try. Nothing to lose. Stand your ground.

Take it back.

I have bought cosmetics for over thirty five years and have never been refused either my money back or an exchange.

Do not go in with a sappy attitude.

If you want to exchange and know what you want, select the new item and go to the assistant and tell them you are swapping. And hand them both over.

If you want your money back, stand firm, so not get angry or upset and you will get your money back as these counters do not want you standing there for long with a complaint.

Thanks for the replies. So even without the receipt I should still be able to get a refund ? I actually know the girl on the counter (so she knows I paid for this and am not a shoplifter !) but in a way that makes the situation more awkward as I don't want her to think she's at fault. It looked fine in the shop....

I just want my £34 bloody quid back !

Have you tried their touche eclat foundation? Just mentioning because I bought it the other day and they do some really pale shades in that, each with three different tones (cool, neutral, warm) so you should find one that matches.

Be nice. Say it was fine in the shop but wears very oily and you think the colour isoxidising on your skin (ie turning orange).I'd try to exchange for something else...even if you make it a Christmas present for a friend or something. They are usually more open to exchanges unless you have an allergic reaction... Wink in which case you'd get a refund.
Ps their nail polishes are great, as are their blushers!

If you paid by card you will have proof of purchase (bank statement)

Tell her that in the shop it looked great but in natural daylight it looked too dark/orange etc.

Ask for your money back but that you would like some samples to take away and try.

That way she may still think you will come back and she will make a sale!
