Help please! Black maternity dress for wedding guest? Accessories??

My cousin's wedding is in a fortnight and I'll be nearly 28 weeks. I have this dress already which fits quite well. Although I'm usually pretty clueless when it comes to fashion I'm thinking as it's black and plain it's going to need some proper accessorising and an injection of colour... I think the wedding will be pretty smart and I'd like to have a warm layer given the sudden arrival of winter this week and none of my coats fit over the bump anymore

Ladies what do you think? Suggestions gratefully received and also please tell me if black is a complete no-no for wedding guest!

purple wrap thingy fastened with a fab vintage brooch like this or this and purple shoes and a butterfly bag

I thought black is a no-no for a wedding.
Do you have/could you get an alternative?

polyhymnia · 13/10/2013 20:57

sorry, that wrap looks more like something cosy for a long walk outdoors than a wedding IMO.

I wore black to a wedding while pregnant, it was the only thing I had that was even slightly suitable, and nobody raised an eyebrow. I wore it with goldy coloured heels and a cream bolero thing, and quite simple jewellery. Weddingy hair accessories help!

Personally i wouldn't wear the black dress to a wedding. I wore something this to a wedding (but mine was in a wine colour) when i was pregnant.

What is your corouring and shape. Would you buy a dress for the occasion if it didn't break the bank?

At 38 weeks, I wore a black dress to a wedding.
And flat, boring shoes.
Stuff what anyone thought!

I put a green cami underneath, and had a green pashmina to cover my arms. The only people who commented wanted to know when I was going to drop.

Enjoy yourself.

Black is fine for weddings unless the bride is a bit old-fashioned.

MyNameIsSuz · 13/10/2013 21:19

Even if the bride is old fashioned, I think most people would understand that your choices are limited when you're pregnant. The wedding I wore black to, I bought loads of different dresses and none were any good, either a terrible fit or tacky material. This was the only dress that looked ok. I doubt anyone would think any less of you for it!

I wore an almost identical dress to a wedding last year when I was pregnant with dd- everyone said I look lovely no comments about wearing black and that was a summer wedding so I'm sure you'll be fine.anyway I wore it with these shoes

And a beaded clutch bag kind of like this

hi everyone, thanks for your feedback and suggestions! I don't want to buy a new dress as who knows what shape I'll be post-pregnancy!
I'm normally a petite size 12 with fair skin and dark hair, and I tend to wear fairly classic blue or purple knee length dresses to weddings with small heels, in the summer flowery. Although I'm only 27 I tend to be a bit classic boring in what I wear, usually fairly simple.
I like the idea of adding purple or green and and will be happy to buy shoes bag etc as they can be used after pregnancy even if I put lots of weight on!
