Redhead and I've just bought a pink winter coat - massive fashion mistake?

I know this sounds ridiculous but I must have missed the memo that says redheads shouldn't wear pink. Ordinarily, I don't as I'm not really a girly pink kind of person, but I've just picked up a lovely (almost new) pink winter coat by Red Herring from a charity shop.

While looking online for what I should pair it with since it's not a colour I normally wear, I kept finding the mantra that redheads shouldn't wear pink.

Have I just made a big fashion mistake then? Any other natural reds out there who make pink work for them?

Well, my 2 redheaded DDs missed that memo too, and they look FAB in pink nearly every single day of the year.

Thanks girls - I guess I'm having a wobbly since it's a colour outside my comfort zone but I'm determined to update my wardrobe.

I don't actually know why pink is supposed to be off limits to redheads. But then I believed the 'dont wear yellow' mantra too until recently when I discovered bright yellow actually suits me...

I've tried it on and I think it suits me but my radar can be off.

Now I just need to find what to wear with it!

Tell yourself it's a white coat with pink highlights.... you'll look fab!

My dd has light red hair and yellow and pink are among her best colours. Since she is almost-3 I'm still mostly dressing her ('mostly' as she refuses all dresses and skirts already ).

That coat is fabulous. You will look a-maz-ing. You should celebrate by acquiring more pink and yellow.

btw, I always think of my dd's colouring as perfect for Lily Pulitzer prints, though that is not at all my style and judging by the dress hatred possibly not hers either, but those clear fresh colours do inspire me for her blog.lillypulitzer.com/

I like pink and have reddish strawberry blonde hair. Wear what you love!

I've never understood people 'having their colors done' either It'd be like being told to avoid food you love for the rest of your life. Sod that. Anyway pink coats are very in I believe.

My ds has lovely red gold hair and dark blue eyes. He looks fabulous in pink:)
Be very well groomed though, as its striking so people will look twice:)

I'm sure you can tell if a colour suits you or not. I'm an unnatural redhead and I have a lovely dark pink top that I bought but I can see that it really clashes with my hair. I can't wear bright red either. Both colours would look very different on natural red hair. If you think it suits you it probably does!

I think the rule is very Victorian, and applies to pastel pink just because it shows up red hair more, which was undesirable back then.

I have copper red hair and I really suit all shades of pink. Maybe depends on the shade of hair and your skintone. If you think you suit it, then you probably do!

Go for it. Purple and cobalt blue also look amazing with red hair IMO

I have red hair and wear pink quite often. Have to be careful with the shade but don't think i look odd! Love pink :)

I have a good friend with the most strikingly red hair I've ever seen and she lives in pink, making up for a childhood of being banned from it! She looks great. That coat's gorgeous!
