This coat is good, I buy this style for my DSs every year
www.hm.com/gb/product/00309?article=00309-C
Warm, wind and waterproof and quite neutral style wise.

This was the first year Ds couldn't find a coat he liked in H&M Shock he loves it in there. And there costs are massively good value.

Sad to think ds1's yellow monstrosity might be the last one for a while! Kids round here (Yorkshire) don't wear them at secondary either. H&M seem really good just never seem to fit or be the right colour when I need to buy! Ggirl yes ds1 wanted the black Devon, ds2 got the bright blue but he's only 6. Quite warm, very generous and waterproof!

PervCat · 12/10/2013 10:26

its odd isnt it - girls LOVE bloody coats and hats and scarves at ours

ggirl · 12/10/2013 11:38

wish the senior school kids here wore coats ...we take the piss out of them walking to school freezing ..saying that'll be you soon

funny they start to wear coats again in 6th form

Why don't they wear coats? Why would they want to be cold?? Shock (Have 5 and 3 year old who wear what they are given, can you tell?)

NorbertDentressangle · 12/10/2013 11:49

ggirl - can I be the first to congratulate you for getting him to wear one for this long! What's your secret?

As the parent of a year 5 I'm failing miserably as DS puts his in his bag but won't wear it Hmm. Admittedly we're only a few minutes walk from school but even so...

DD (Yr9) will wear a gilet but only a coat if theres a foot of snow on the ground,it's minus double figures and hell has frozen over. Wink

ShoeWhore · 12/10/2013 12:07

No secondary kids wear coats here either Shock

We like Gap Warmest coats for winter.

filee777 · 12/10/2013 12:22

Ah I see! thanks for explaining, my children are only little so I have not had to contend with the no-coat-wearing-teen thing yet!

I wore a coat to school but our uniforms were prison issue grey ones (with a stamp) and I lived a couple of miles from the school!

ggirl · 12/10/2013 13:02

norbert-luckily , so far, he's done what he's told when he leaves the house..but it's usually stuffed in his bag on the way home.

DS1 is in year 5 and won't wear a coat that he hasn't had a say in choosing. We have this one for him, this year. Warm, practical and shower proof. Our winters tend to be a bit hard, up here.
