not the cloth labels, just the cardboard tag things. I bought a top and did this, then when I tried it on again I realised it fits really badly across the back - too big and sags strangely. can I take it back? I can actually tie the label back on - but does that look deceptive? I haven't worn it at all, apart from the one at home try on for 2 minutes. it's £50 quid down the drain otherwise

You could always say it was a present, so you had to take the label off. They can see it wasn't worn.

I would pull a seam and say it was faulty. Will probably get told off for saying that though

SecurMummy · 30/06/2006 11:42

I would attempt the approach of;

Put lable on top of top folded in bag, breeze in and announce confidently, I require a refund for this top - here is the receipt, then turn and look in a bored manner out of the window whilst they rush to do you bidding....

and hope like hell it works (back up plan of running from shop and drowning sorrows in tall lattee if it doesn't work?)

hmm , depends whether they think is in resaleable condition or that you may have worn it. If they can just reuse the labels with a tagging gun it will probably be ok but ultimately they are under no obligation to exchange or refund.

SecurMummy · 30/06/2006 11:50

Can you swap it? If there is something you want to swap it for they may be more oen to it as they get to keep the money - which is always favorite with shops

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 30/06/2006 12:05

ok I think I'll be upfront, rather than tying the label back on - if I do that it looks like I've got more to hide than I have, and I don;t mind swapping it or taking a credit note. I'll smile a lot.

I once got a refund on a posh dress that I wore to a "function"..I think I kept the labels on though just hid them

I've taken kids' stuff back to H&M with the labels taken off. I usually keep the labels anyway and just hand them back with the item. Never had a problem. I really don't see how they can refuse a refund on the grounds that the plastic thingy that holds the label to the top is missing. As someone siad, they have label guns.

I bought a dress last week and pranced about the house in it for about 3 hours after trying it on. Just left it on. It still has the label attached but I didn't feel up to taking it back to the shop, since I suppose it's worn.

Think if you do take it back, don't smile too much and be apologetic just act like you're not expecting it to be an issue.
