I haven't left it until the last minute honest! I've been looking for months and have bought and returned a grand total of 12 dresses so far.....

I am a size 16. 5ft 7 Big boobs. (34G) Chunky calves. Hate my arms. I'm a bright spring colour wise I've come to the conclusion that the problem is I don't look good in dresses. But I have an inside leg of 33 inches so I can't buy trousers unless they are long/tall. Usually buy from Next as lengths are good but I hate everything they have this season.

I would really appreciate all suggestions. I had a budget of £100 but to be honest I'm so desperate I'm prepared stretch that.

Ok, start again Smile

When you say you've upped the budget... By how much?

How do you feel about something like this?

tethersend · 09/10/2013 11:30

similar in blue and light pink

tethersend · 09/10/2013 11:31

and purple

tethersend · 09/10/2013 11:32

Blue would look great with long legs and heels...

tethersend · 09/10/2013 13:40

Or how about separates?

This skirt would look great with this top tucked in, black opaques and heels...

Lolaismyfavouriteandmybest · 09/10/2013 15:18

I had looked at that one Nomore, didn't think it would suit big boobs being so patterned, How short did you find it? (and how tall are you)

im 5ft 5 came to knees:) it has a lovely cut and really showed of my slim [ish] waist! it gives a lovely hr glass shape................

Lolaismyfavouriteandmybest · 10/10/2013 00:24

Thanks tethers, I like those (especially the pink one!) but I can't justify £225 for a dress i will probably wear once....

I wouldn't be in the mess had I paid £95 for a coast dress (I saw on another October wedding thread (the blue Olivia one)) a couple of months ago but decided that it was too much to spend on a dress. Now it's totally sold out everywhere and is looking more and more like a bargin :(

And no more- I don't have a slimish waist.... But I will try to get to shops and try it on.

Ooh! Thanks, I like that LTS one. The pessimist says it probably won't fit in the body as I have a really short body.... Just off to check if they do free returns :-)

I second Collectif. I have photos of the dolores doll dress and the dolores dress on me if that helps. Am size 16 and 34JJ

Lolaismyfavouriteandmybest · 12/10/2013 23:46

I tried on a 50's style dress today and it was a revelation. I bought it on the spot (thinking it was flowery - I'm visually impaired) when I took it home my mum broke it to me that it's animal print. I'm not keen on animal print... It's also black and white which I also don't like.... But I haven't returned it. Yet.....

So far this week I have returned 3 sizes of the Olivia coast dress. 2 white stuff shift dresses, 2 phase 8 shift dresses and a "long" dress from a catalogue company that appears to cater for very petite people as the floor length dress was only just passed my knees.

I'm really really hoping that I still love this one in the morning.....

I found a great new shop in Liverpool his week called Taking Shape. They are an aussie company and had some fab clothes, might be worth a look here

MyNameIsWinkly · 12/10/2013 23:59

If you like 50s style have a look at www.ladyvlondon.com/ for some dresses

m.phase-eight.co.uk/fcp/product/phase-eight/Dresses/Marcie-Print-Dress/202369937 Also this phase 8 dress, it's amazing - no sleeves but you could wear a bolero or shrug...

MyNameIsWinkly · 13/10/2013 00:00

But with any luck you'll still love the one you bought :) Link?

Oooh nice!

Lolaismyfavouriteandmybest · 13/10/2013 00:09

I tried that phase8 one on today Winkly Grin alas I liked it more than it liked me.

I'm happier in things that aren't fitted round my bum it seems. Just searched for fit and flare dresses and I'm finding a few hopefuls, just in case I wake up thinking "what have I done!" again....

Lolaismyfavouriteandmybest · 13/10/2013 00:10

Black animal print is so not me though!

OP posts:
MyNameIsWinkly · 13/10/2013 00:13

So what if its "not you". Its a fab dress, its not an obvious tacky animal print pattern, if you feel good in it then hooray. How do you plan to style it?

For future do look at the Lady V site, their dresses with flared skirts are gorgeous. Next really is horrific this season isn't it.

Lolaismyfavouriteandmybest · 13/10/2013 00:13

Found a black shrug which I actually like more than the dress :-) I have a choice of a pearl necklace or a red bead necklace to go with it. (trying to put some colour in there. I don't do monochrome!) and I bought shoes!

I either did really well or I have a whole day of taking things back lined up.

OP posts:
MyNameIsWinkly · 13/10/2013 00:15

Do the bead necklace, some red lipstick and DO NOT take that lovely dress back! You will look fab, guaranteed.

Lolaismyfavouriteandmybest · 13/10/2013 00:22

Ooh. I'm liking the lady v stuff! Thanks.

I don't know what Next are doing.... Even their kids stuff is unappealing this season! May well be the first catalogue I buy nothing from.
