How to wear fuchsia lipstick?

I've just bought a fuchsia lipstick I really like. This is very bold for me, as I am quite new to make up and normally stay very neutral so catching sight of myself in the mirror is slightly terrifying :)

How do you wear it during the day? What colour do you wear on your cheeks and how do you do your eyes?

I'm pale but yellow/golden-toned and have dark blonde/light brown hair and blue-grey eyes. I'm not sure fuchsia is the best colour for me, but I like it and want to give it a go as it's fun!

I usually just wear it with mascara and an eyeshadow that's the same colour as my skin but with a bit of shimmer. Sometimes black liner as well, but rarely.
For blusher, I go for a colour similar to the lipstick. But just a light dusting of the blusher!
I always wear foundation/tinted moisturiser as I find that the red/pink lipsticks make red areas/spots stand out more.

I sometimes mix the lipstick with lip balm - easier to wear for daytime.

I wear it, I suit bright pink lips! Makes your teeth look whiter too!

I have very dark hair, am tanned but can wear bright pink even when pale. I have blue/grey eyes and i sometimes wear a flash of bright pink such as a scarf.

If my lips are bright then I soften my eyeshadow by blending very well and smudging my eyeliner. I wear a grey eyeshadow to line my socket and mix a little fawn colour with the grey for my eyelid.

I wear coralista blusher usually but if I am very tanned which I sometimes am ,I wear a bright pink blusher, a rose colour.

If I want to tone down my lips I blot once with tissue then I add vaseline pink bubbly lip therapy and pat it on and it looks more muted and stays put.

Next post I will list some of my bright lips I am loving at the moment.

In fuschia libra. I love this, so easy to wear and a slick of the vaseline pink bubbly leaves me bright glossy lips for hours.

NYX. Xtreme lip cream in Dolly girl

This is gorgeous, I am old but it does not bleed and stays put, long lasting and I get loads of compliments when I wear it. Not for the faint hearted though as it has an almost plastic shine!

I hd something very similar back in the early 1980's when you could buy cosmetics made by Charlie!

I have ordered this

YSL glossy stain in ENcre Rose as I have a few other shades and the staying owner is fabulous

SundaySimmons · 08/10/2013 14:19

Other fantastic ones are

NYX black label in hot pink

NYX lip cream in Addis Ababa

NYX matte in shocking pink

Love them all and can't rate NYX highly enough. I used to wear a lot of Mac lipsticks many years ago but the formulations have changed and they are drying, feel greasy and just are lacking in the same quality. NYX are cheaper and in my opinion make better shades, they last well, don't dry, bleed or feel horrible.

TravelinColour - I know it's not my perfect colour. I wear a lot of coral as that definitely is. I just fancied the fuchsia as it's a change, I like it and am trying to work out the best way to wear it so it looks reasonably good - fully appreciate it won't be me at my most perfect. I'm taking the same approach I do with my fuchsia dress - I wear it because I love it and so look very happy in it and hence I get lots of compliments when wearing it. Trying to find a way of wearing this lippie that makes it most suitable for me. It won't be my every day look, but just a once in a while way of mixing it up. If I look a bit less good than in my perfect colours, so be it.

It sounds like I have almost the same colours as OP - dark blonde, pale skin with warm undertones (Mac foundation colours are NC15, Diorskin Nude in 010), blue eyes.

There are many tones of fuchsia coloured lipsticks - some with warmer undertones, some with colder.

These are the colours I wear: Mac Relentlessly Red (matte finish, lighter and slightly warmer than the other colours), Guerlain Rouge Automatique in 165 Champs-Elysees (cold toned), Guerlain Rouge G in 860 Madame Batifole (a darker fuchsia) and Tom Ford Violet Fatale (cold and very purple on). On the picture, it's the Mac one at the bottom.

Maybe mix it with some vaseline to make a sheer "wash" of colour? Then gradually build up more colour?

evertonmint · 08/10/2013 16:47

This afternoon I tried SundaySimmons's tip of blotting and then putting vaseline over (except I didn't have vaseline so tried it with a bit of 8 hour cream to get the idea!) It definitely suits me more like this, a bit more muted and glossy rather than really matte.

Thanks for the swatches Vibbe - that's really helpful and the Mac one looks lovely - slightly orangier I guess.

Thank you all - going to experiment a bit over coming weeks with this :)
