Any ideas for casual dresses for winter?

I would like some casual dresses for weekend wear. I already wear dresses a lot during the week, but would like some for the weekend. I am 38 and a size 12.

Here is where it gets tricky! I don't wear black and also don't like the look of a thin summer dress worn with tights. So it needs to be a winter weight fabric, maybe skater or A-line or possibly empire line. Any ideas?

I can pay up to about £70, maybe more for a really good item. Thanks.

I just bought this for day time winter wear. I'm 36 and a tall size 12.

There's a wool? tartan (mainly grey with a bit of red) sleeveless but winter weight dress in Laura Ashley that I loved except it was just above my knees and they need to be covered !

MotherOfSoupDragon · 07/10/2013 19:49

Just what I'm looking for too. I'm 49 and size 12/14. I tend to wear opaque tights so need heavier material too. I'm probably autumn, so greens, browns. I don't wear dark colours on my top half unless patterned.

I hope you find something. I haven't seen anything I like recently.

If I was rich I'd have this

Or this

This is nice if you don't need more structured

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/10/2013 20:07

Sorry - completely ignored your brief re shape.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/10/2013 20:08

Yum

BranchingOut · 07/10/2013 21:34

Ooh, thanks, I do like some of those, especially the Hobbs lottie dress.
Plus ideas for a couple of places where I don't usually look.

Jaeger?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/10/2013 19:31

Like that Jaegar one and a great price - unfortunately their stuff is made for tall people, which rules me out. :)

MotherOfSoupDragon · 08/10/2013 19:45

What about this one?

Unfortunatley £79 is a bit much for me at present, but I love that one.

MissBeehiving · 08/10/2013 21:47

Is it Remus? I bought this and it's just on my knee. Quality is great. And this bargain one which is fab. I love the Jaeger outlet Smile

iseenodust · 09/10/2013 10:41

Remus Have to disagree over Jaeger and height. I'm 5'4 and find the shift dresses come just below knee - which is where I want them. Also sleeves not too long on tops. Not tried trousers.

Abzs · 09/10/2013 13:02

I'll partially agree with Remus. I have an online bargain Jaeger wrap dress, bright red and lovely. But designed for someone considerably longer from shoulder to waist than I am. I bought it when I was pg and didn't realise how wrong the fit would be now.

Re the OP, People Tree have this in blue and grey, 3/4 and short sleeves in their sale.

LaRegina · 09/10/2013 13:13

What about some of these?

I love jumper dresses, I have a few of the fitted style ones which I wear either with skinny jeans or leggings, depending on the length, and boots. I bought one in TKMaxx recently similar to these but not the exact one - it's beige cashmere and is lovely and soft & comfy but also nicely fitted so I still have a waist! It was only £25 - I love TKmaxx Smile

Spookey80 · 09/10/2013 14:35

Bump

BranchingOut · 09/10/2013 15:51

Ooh yes, I like some of those TK max jumper dresses.

And that Jaeger is for long people is good news - I am definitely 'long' and could never wear a 'body' in the 1990....:)

Brompton knit dress, latte dress white stuff ....lovely and the spotty one with fur gilet but I,m not sure on that one but kept it as it felt so nice

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/10/2013 20:35

The tweedy Jaegar one is gorgeous. I was drooling over it in the summer.

I'm 5'2 and a bit of a slapper - I like my jumper dresses to be mid thigh. :)

MissBeehiving · 09/10/2013 22:55

@ "bit of a slapper" Grin I don't believe that for a minute remus

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/10/2013 19:29

:) I aim to show as much leg as possible, whilst I've still got legs that are half decent! They are the only bit of me that is. Grin
