Birkenstock / footbed (?) shoes

My feet have lived in Birkenstocks all summer - I have plantar faciatus (sp) and they really suit my feet, meaning that when I wear them I'm virtually pain free.

Winter is another story - my feet are sore all the time & I can't wait to get home & into my birkies (with socks, v continental :)

Any suggestions for shoes I could try? The selection on the Birkenstock website are pretty uninspiring unfortunately...

Can you not get special orthotics made that would help?

I got referred by my GP to the hospital, can't remember what my foot issue is called but it cause knee pain so my custom built orthotics help prevent that. The heels are built up on an angle and they support my high arches.
