are jeans inappropriate for a christening?

I have 2 events coming up and lack of funds, so was hoping I might be able to wear a similar outfit to both. One is a christening and the other is early Christmas drinks.
I have navy skinny jeans, sky high heels and a black blazer so thought I just need to get a nice blouse.
But suddenly had a realisation that christening is probably has a dress code similar to a wedding and jeans are not appropriate to that.
Do you think it's possible to do both events with the same outfit?
I'm normally very much a dress wearer for this kind of thing in the past but currently breastfeeding and find the pull up and vest down the easiest way to feed discretely and I will be taking DD to the christening.
Thanks if anyone can advise or give ideas to help...

To be honest I do not think jeans are appropriate for any formal occasion. However, are your dark blue jeans actual denim or 5 pocket trousers? If the latter they could be fine with a smart top.
Pre-Christmas drinks in jeans may be ok, as long as you are in a casual place. In a smart wine bar or similar, you may feel a little under-dressed.

Yes. Ditto sky high heels. A christening and Christmas drinks are totally different types of event.

I would normally also say no. However it sounds as if you are dressing up the jeans anyway, so it's probably passable.

I am pretty sure no one will really care if you are wearing jeans tbh (unless they are ripped, faded and worn with a hoody as at the last wedding I attended)

SquidgyMummy · 04/10/2013 20:17

outfit sounds fine for drinks.
could you borrow a dress / skirt for christening. (Especially if you are a godparent)

ithaka · 04/10/2013 20:19

Outfit sounds fine for drinks. Jeans and sky high heels are a big 'no' for a christening. IMO sky high heels usually look pretty ridiculous in the daytime.

StuckOnARollercoaster · 04/10/2013 20:28

I think you are probably confirming that I need 2 outfits which is what I suspected.
Am going to have to think through the christening - really don't know what to do for that as I prefer the separates idea (less flustered to get DD feeding quickly as I struggled with unbuttoning and arranging a scarf discretely before DD is into full blown wailing) but struggle with a skirt or trouser that doesn't look frumpy.
Any ideas? Will do some searching of old S&B threads as well and then figure out how to pay for 2 outfits!

Christening is 'Sunday Best' not weddingy.

Would you wear jeans to Church normally? If so, then you'd get away with it.

PurplePidjin · 04/10/2013 20:45

I didn't give a shit what people wore to ds's christening i was just pleased the showed up! at half past nine in the morning when we're a 4 hour drive away

Surely you wear church clothes to a christening - clean, modest, smart-casual ish?

LostMarbles99 · 04/10/2013 20:51

No definitely not! You'll look like you can't be bothered!

Badvoc · 04/10/2013 20:54

No!

MissStrawberry · 04/10/2013 20:55

You really can't wear jeans and high heels to a Christening!

PoshPaula · 04/10/2013 21:12

No.

buttercrumble · 04/10/2013 21:13

Yes

PoshPaula · 04/10/2013 21:13

I mean, no, they are not appropriate, don't wear jeans.

StuckOnARollercoaster · 04/10/2013 21:54

ok no jeans!
Trousers - are these from another thread acceptable? Teamed with some kind of loose but smart blouse type of top?

Jeans are not appropriate nor are very high heels suitable for a christening.

You can buy cheap trousers in matalan, tesco, asda etc
