Friday night on the town, what to wear?

I've been invited by a new friend to go on a girls' night out this evening. I'm really pleased and excited but slightly daunted because I've not been to a nightclub in 12 years! I've moved with DH's work and I've not got a group of good female friends living locally.

I've recently lost some weight which means my clothes choices are fairly limited, for instance my old trousers which were fashionably tight fitting are now a bit too baggy and unflattering. I've got more grown up clothes that fit but I really don't want to look like the mummy at the disco Grin. I've got this afternoon to pop into town but no real idea of where to start and I don't want to spend too much as I'm hoping to lose a bit more weight. I'm late 30s, 5'7" and a size 12-14. I've got a couple of dark skirts that I thought might do if I found a snazzy top? So lost! Thanks for any help Smile

Im 27 and going out tonight with my 4 best friends (similar ages). We will most likely be wearing the following.

Me - black skinny jeans, studded 'slipper' shoes, cream shell top, some sort of little jacket, either leather or blazer style. And my obligatory statement necklace :)

Friends - either skinny jeans & nice vests (not fitted, think loose flowy cami tops) or skater dresses & ankle boots.

I would say thats kind of the 'uniform' at the minute.

I would definitely suggest black skinny jeans. I couldnt live without mine. You can then wear them casual in the day or dress them up at night. And black goes with most things.

Thank you, Shabby, that's just what I needed, a guide as to what is being worn Smile. I drew a blank in town but in the process remembered that languishing at the bottom of the washing basket was a lumberjack-type shirt with gems on the shoulders that I bought in the summer and forgot about. It's on a quick wash, hope the gems stay on, honestly it was never going to get hand washed! I've shoved my black jeggings in the drier, hoping to shrink them a bit Grin. I'm thinking heeled ankle boots, black jeggings, little white top and open (it can't handle my boobs!) shirt over the top. Does that sound bouncer-ready?
