All I'm after is something smart for work long line - soft and can be layered. Was after oversized but didn't see tons I liked.

Any idea on quality re Mint Velvet, can you machine wash the wool etc?? Never got stuff from there before.

and for all the haters out there - I don't CARE that they're grey or ink! Smile

I've jut ordered the button back jumper in grey - it has been despatched but hasn't been delivered yet. I'll let you know what it's like when it arrives. There's a 15% code too - FALL. The only other item I have from Mint Velvet is a pair of jeans which I like.

Sonotkylie · 01/10/2013 13:19

I have GREY tunic type thing. Kind of knitted cotton fabric. Wear it lots winter and summer, wash it a bit less often. Its fantastic - no bobbles, still same shape, looks much as when new even though its 18+ months old. But its the only thing I have bought from there so I don't know if that's normal. On the odd occasion when I see them in store, the quality seems fine (or rather I don't notice it particularly, much like the item I bought which has turned out to be very good)

MissDD1971 · 01/10/2013 13:21

oh oh THANK you to both of you! re advice and code.

I'm a Mint Velvet Virgin too and will let you know if ok. not heard major horror stories about them, nice stuff here anyway.

Mine just arrived but I don't have time to open it now - will come back later!

3xM · 01/10/2013 13:50

Don't know about their knitwear but bought a few things in their sale, jeans and a top, and I would say they are very good quality. And now I've seen a 15% off code, and it's payday, I may just have another look-see at their website...

PoshPaula · 01/10/2013 13:54

I've bought quite a few bits from Mint Velvet and I think the quality is good. I haven't bought knitwear, though.

CFSKate · 01/10/2013 16:03

Those things say they are Cotton 33.0% ,Nylon 28.0% ,Viscose 28.0% ,Angora 6.0% ,Cashmere 5.0%.

Mint Velvet used to be Principles, and I have some Principles jumpers in that same mix which are still going strong, they are washed in the machine on the wool setting with the special wool detergent, and dry flat.

PoshPaula · 01/10/2013 16:17

Did M.V. used to be Principles? I never liked their stuff!

BetsyBidwell · 01/10/2013 16:51

They are expensive for the amount of non wool they have in them

MrsMcGregor · 01/10/2013 16:51

I'm disappointed! The jumper is lovely. It's quite a fine knit but a really nice soft mix. Not sure how it would rate for warmth but with something fine underneath, it's okay. Anyway, it doesn't suit me - it's very slim fitting and gives me a tummy .... well, I have a tummy anyway but this doesn't do it any favours Blush.

The jeans are nice on but I have to keep hitching the, up at the groin as you would a pair of tights. I do aphave another pair of MV jeans which I really like but have the same problem with - not sure whether it's me or the cut! Back they go. And back to the drawing board for me!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/10/2013 17:37

I think the quality of MV stuff is generally poor, especially considering the price.

MissDD1971 · 01/10/2013 19:18

drat.

only other thing I've seen is a Jigsaw cowl neck grey jumper.

makes sense if it used to be Principles but I keep getting confused re the Ben de Lisi range for Principles at Debenhams. Caught up yet?! Smile

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/10/2013 19:21

I used to quite like Principles, but the Ben DL range is hideous.

AngieM2 · 01/10/2013 19:31

Ive got some MV stuff, i try to buy in the sale as i feel the pricing is more realistic then when you consider the quailty (which I think is pretty average). I can't believe for one minute it is Priciples.....principles was a debenhams brand and MV is house of fraser....also, I'm sure MV was going before principles disbanded.

MissDD1971 · 01/10/2013 19:35

Remus - you are correct...

Remus or anyone else - I just want decent nice knitwear, not Uniqlo etc - prefer Hush or Toast or anywhere else, I want style but not too dear.

any suggestions?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/10/2013 19:38

I've been trying for forever to find some nice new knitwear and it's virtually impossible, unless you can afford good cashmere (I just can't justify it nowadays, sadly).

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/10/2013 19:39

It is deffo at least one of the people who started at Principles, and Principles wasn't a Debenhams brand - it just sometimes had concessions there.

MissDD1971 · 01/10/2013 19:42

Remus - I think Hush may be my go to.

You may have seen my FWM post - got that one through brand alley - got chucked out by mistake and it was angora and lovely!

Remus - also - cashmere is great but it always scares me - whatever cashmere I buy (John Smedley etc) it always pills, moths get to it etc - can't be arsed faffing around.

My brother's friend owns Woollovers (my brother photographs for their website too) maybe I should go there and try to angle for a few freebies!

TK Maxx is a good bet for reasonably priced, good quality knitwear.
Or John Lewis sale.

BetsyBidwell · 01/10/2013 21:13

I got a nice cowl neck one from phase eight last year. Lkng. Batwing. Similar in blue this year. Plus marks cashmere for work.

BeattieBow · 01/10/2013 21:18

I don't like mint velvet - too much acrylic imo.

I was just looking at the Hush website and I think there is some nice knitwear on there.

cos has lots of knitwear too, but not necessarily longline layering stuff.

frankietwospots · 01/10/2013 21:22

Re: Woolovers - I've got this on order: www.woolovers.com/lambswool/womens/casual-moss-stitch-jumper.aspx

Discount code I used is NCFAL but not sure when it expires.

Orangeanddemons · 01/10/2013 21:46

I like some Mint Velvet, but I wish they would expand their colour palette a bit, beyond grey, cream, pink and khaki. All nice colours, but they are the same every season.

Agree that the Hush knitwear is lovely

MrsMcGregor · 01/10/2013 22:02

Yep, I've got my eye on a few things from Hush but am waiting for a discount code Grin.
