Exfoliation - using muslin cloth/dermaflannel or exfoliating masks. That's what works for me anyway.

Exfoliation - but use chemicals instead of scrubbing at your face with a cloth. Something with salicylic acid in will work wonders used twice daily. Double cleanse morning and night, follow with a moisturiser that suits your skin.

We're in town so I'll have a look at some products while we're here, thanks Smile

Try a few crushed aspirin for the salicylic element.

lucysmam · 01/10/2013 13:57

what do the aspirin do?

Well aspirin is salycilic acid, so crushing them up, mixing with water to make a paste and smearing on your face is a cheap face treatment.

But there are plenty of face washes and scrubs containing it which will be kinder to your skin and easy to use twice daily for best results. I'm always recommending Nutrogena Pink Grapefruit scrub on here, or they do a cleanser if you don't like scrubs/have sensitive skin. But basically the teenage skin ranges all contain salycilic acid (check the ingredients) so pick a cleanser from them, but use a more nourishing moisturiser from the grown-ups' shelf as your skin might become dry. Products with salicylic acid for grown-ups do exist but they are more expensive as we are supposed to have money to spend on that sort of thing Hmm Grin

I've been using La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo and Effaclar K and one of them (still not sure which, maybe both!) have cleared out my pores a treat! Combined with my Clarisonic I have the best skin i've had in years!

I think i'll try the aspirin mask too though, that sounds like a good cheap treatment.

lucysmam · 01/10/2013 14:51

Grin hmmmmm.....be nice if we did!

I looked at the teen skin ones but was a bit Confused tbh, sure I read not things about one of the ranges a while back but not sure which so going to have a google when we get in & see what I can find

I use La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo and Effaclar K too. Whichever one I grab first, they both work really well. My skin has never been clearer, and I'm using it on my 13 year old son too, and it's clearing his skin up as well.

They both contain salicylic acid. The Effaclar Duo has extra ingredients, like niacinamide which is a good anti-ageing ingredient apparently. Currently 25% off in Boots, so less than a tenner.

lucysmam · 01/10/2013 16:43

I've seen a lot of people talking about the La Roche products & recommending them. Am off to the bank in the morning in peace so will have a look in boots for them

La Roche posay did nothing for my skin. Everyone is different though, so what works for one person won't for another.

I found this video for you for simple pore unclogging with no fancy products
