French manicure - yay or nay?

ChesterDrawers · 28/09/2013 20:34

I've just done my nails in a French manicure for the first time in ages and, although they look lovely, if I do say so myself it's just dawned on me no one seems to have them like this anymore.

Are even my nails I trendy now? What's the MN verdict?

Always chic on short, squared off nails IMO. But awful on nails with long tips.

onlysettleforbutterflies · 28/09/2013 20:56

Its a classic that doesn't date imo. If you want to be really fashionable I would pick something else though (although don't actually know what is considered fashionable at the moment).

ProtectiveMother · 30/09/2013 00:49

I think it looks bad. I think you should put a nude or an autumn hue onto trimmed nails.

MagzFarqharson · 30/09/2013 01:00

I'm currently doing a diploma course and the French manicure is considered to be the classic nail treatment

Squared-off acrylics, no - out.

Natural enamelled nails are preferred. But the French manicure look will always be the classic look.

I just got mine done today. So yay!

MissScatterbrain · 30/09/2013 10:23

Only if your nails are short. Would prefer nude polish as don't like the white tips you get.

BunnyLebowski · 30/09/2013 11:05

I really dislike them.

Dated and naff rather than classic imo.

If you want to be "trendy" then you need to choose something else.

But if you think they look lovely and aren't bothered about being up to the minute, what's the problem? Go with what you like rather than what people think is fashionable.

jackstini · 30/09/2013 15:32

Not particularly trendy, no - but still classic, as long as they are shortish and squoval/oval rather than square.

Trendy colours for winter could be plum or taupe, depending on how long your nails are and if you like them being noticed Smile

mmmdonuts · 30/09/2013 15:34

They look lovely on toenails especially.

Ergh, don't try Boots' pack though, with the pen - the tips peel off so quickly!

ChesterDrawers · 30/09/2013 21:07

Hmmm, mixed opinion then. Thank you all for your thoughts. I am not overly bothered about fashionable nails but just wondered really.

I painted my own nails like this at the weekend for a wedding

I think its a classic look, my nails are natural and not too long
